on a serious note as a quick aside

A lady in my wife's office had to bury a nephew this past weekend..shot in the head while on a hunt in Arkansas.  It seems the property he was hunting borders another hunting club. It was after legal hours and the young man went into his camp and checked in with his buddies..After awhile he decided to check on a salt lick nearby to see if deer had been using it.  While on his way there a "hunter" shot him.  His buddies heard the shot and went to investigate when he did not show up.  They found him shot in the head.  The authorities went to the other club and looked at the register book..seems this fellow was the only one listed.  When interviewed he said he had shot at noise in the bush....then went to look.  When he said that the guy was dead..he just got in his truck and left.  Others at his club said he had been drinking earlier that afternoon.  He is still in the lock-up.  Please be careful out there guys..on both ends of the gun.  How many Ten Commandments of Hunting did that fellow break?

I was sorry to hear of the report in your story.  I just returned from MY annual hunting trip in Arkansas with family and friends, and we had actually made the comment about how nice it was that we had not heard of any hunting/shooting tragedies this year.

Stories like this always make me feel sick. Not because it could happen to me or a family member or a good friend (although it could) but just to think that there are people out there in the woods with all of us that would shoot at "a noise in the bush". This is my #1 reason to not care which one is the best brush cartridge. If you cant see it dont shoot at it!!!
My prayers are with the family and friends of this man.

I hope they manage to prove this knucklehead's wrongdoing and hang him out to dry.  Incidents like this really tick me off.  Shooting at a noise in the bush, does it get any dumber than that?

Amen Brothers,

The guy is where he belongs and I hope he stays there.  I have had personal experience of being shot at and luckely they missed.  I had to return fire to get them to stop.  Later that day I had the good fortune to arrest them.  It really felt good.

The rules don't work for guys like this.  They know the rules but figure they are meant for someone else.  None of them should be able to pick up a gun and go in the field.  The more they get away with nothing happening, the closer they move to a tragady.

I never walk in the dark without a flashlight (red or white).Even though I can see without the light sometimes,It is just to prevent an accident.A hunter getting ready to make a poor judgement on a "shadow or a moving bush" will hopefully have to realize deer don't carry lights!!
  I also wear my orange at all times also.

I do the same, always have carried a flashlight to and from my stand.  Even on private land.
