Sightron makes a straight 24x scope with a 1/4 minute dot and 44mm adjustable objective (model SII24X24D.) Is anyone using this scope? The spec's list the weight as under 16 oz. I have heard wonderful things from users of the Sightron 6-24x model (which weighs almost 3 oz more), but I never knew Sightron made a straight 24x. A catalog I have lists it for $75 less than the variable (low $300's.) Based on the spec's it sounds like it might be a very nice scope for silhouettes. Only downside is 1/8 min clicks. Also, the spec's don't indicate how close in it will focus. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has one.

could you please specify why 1/8 is disadvantage to 1/4??

i shoot their 6x24 with 1/8 minute clicks. no disadvantage that i am aware of. actually lets me sight in just a tad more accurately. but... with as clever as Pavel is, i am betting it was a rhetorical question?

hmm it is hard to fool you Dave...
yes there is not a disadvantage, and 1/8 as you mention lets you be more precise in your adjustment.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that there was anything WRONG with 1/8 minute clicks. It's just that I'm such a bonehead, when I have to turn my elevation more than 360 degrees I inevitably get confused and dial the wrong elevation in. On my Elite 4200 (which has 1/8 minute clicks) there are only 6 minutes of adjustment in one full revolution. Maybe the Sightron has more than that?

the sightron has more. not much more though... 7 3/8ths back to zero. i shoot fed 900 which is a bit quicker down range so i right to about 7 for my ram zero. i agree. i don't like going past zero for my rams. is just one more opportunity to screw up.

I have been using the 24x44 Sightron scope for a year now in IHMSA silhouettes. I think it is a great scope and it can focus down to 10 yards if I remember correctly. A couple of things that I have noted about the scope are a LOT of eye relief, extended focus range, and light weight. It seems to be every bit as clear as my Leupold 24x so from my perspecitve there isn't anything wrong with it.

I have one. It was on my HP standard rifle for a few months then spent the rest of the year on my SB.

It is light, focuses close, about the right power, has a smallish dot, tracks very well and is inexpensive. The odd number of clicks per revolution can be confusing, but once you get used to it and get your numbers you are OK. Only hassle with the 1/8" clicks is when you have a spotter who thinks in 1/4" clicks. Or when all your other rifles have 1/4" clicks.

It is sensitive to getting washed out when shooting toward the sun, but otherwise it is sharp and contrasty.

My only major complaint is that if you dont have your eye lined up just right you cant see anything through it. If you dont shoulder the rifle perfectly every time you have to hunt around like crazy to get your eye lined up. Most other shooters who have tried mine have voiced the same complaint. This can really kill you if you are not having a good day to start with.

For now it is working, but I plan to replace it with a Premier Leupold or that new Weaver just as soon as I hit the lottery.
