Do any of you guys who shoot 44 magnum ever hunt with Any of the "HOT" Doubletap ammo in your
Contender ? I guess the first question should have been, will the contender handle it ?

I went to their site and all but one listing for the 44 Mag said loaded to standard pressure.  I would say the the 225 gr copper bullet (probably Barnes) is too although it didn't say.
So why would it be too much for a Contender?
Am I missing something?

Shooter is new to the Contender and is being careful not to go overboard.  If it is to hot for a Contender it will be way to hot for a revolver.

Well,im not up on standard pressures and all that because i dont reload but if you compare their loads data to any of the normal manufacturers like Pmc,usa, remington, federal etc you'll notice that Double tap rates most of their loads at about 1200 ft/lbs.Now thats a fair deal hotter than a winchester silvertip rated at 800 ft/lbs.The same goes for most of the others,i think federal has one load close to 1200 ft/lbs and buffalo bore or garrett has one at about 1300.But most of the over the counter stuff is less that 1000 ft/lbs at the muzzle. So i just assumed that Double Tap was loaded near the top of a 44 mags rating for that particular bullet weight.

The best education I could give would be to ask the manufacturer of the ammo in question.
Unless someone on here is involved with the company how could they actually know?
I just went to their site and readily saw the statement on each listing of their ammo type that they are loaded to standard pressure.  Which is 36000 psi or 40000 cup depending on the method used to measure pressure.
You generally will not go wrong going to the manufacturer of the ammo in question first.
But at times that will not be fruitful and will leave one scratching ones head.

I tested out their 250 grain Keith 44 Magnum load in my Taurus Model 44. I was looking for a deep penetrating load that was standard weight. This is the only DT 44 Magnum load I have tried. I found it to be a clean burning hard hitting load that ran good in the Taurus. Easy extraction and no signs of being over pressure. They do have quite a selection of bullets to choose from depending on the game you hunt. I bet their 225 grain Barnes X bullet load would be one heck of a medium game load. I prefer the cast loads for the woods.
