that's a real nice looking holster.
i paid a guy $50 to make one for me, and its not anywhere near that nice !

Thanks, I've been making holsters as a hobby for a lot of years. That one is the first one I've ever made without a snap keeper. When I got my first Kahr, they were so new, no one had any holsters for them. So a custom holster was the only option. $50 for a custom holster doesn't sound too bad, given good quality leather and workmanship. The only cheap holster I've found for a Kahr, that works, is a plastic Fobus. I paid less than $25 for it and it works. I had another leather project I needed to do, so I had all my leather tools out and decided there was no reason I shouldn't make the Kahr a nicer holster. I doubt it will actually work any better than the cheapo Fobus and the whole point of the tooling is lost on a concealled carry holster. But it'll look better laying on the nightstand in the dark. CH

well it looks like you know what your doing. the tooling might be lost on a ccw piece, but you know its there and its the attention to the details that really count. if you took the time to tool out something that very few will see, that tells me you care about your work and you more then likely do a damn fine job elsewhere too.
well you'd think that if he charged me $50, i'd have gotten a 1/2 descent job, but not so. it was nothing more then folded over leather and riveted together , barely shaped to the handgun. i ended up giving it away, but should have scraped it.

Scibaer, Sorry your custom holster went sidways on you. I got started because I was too cheap to pay the going rate. I grew up in Ft. Worth, TX, the home of Tandy leather, we had leather craft classes in junior high school, I just wish I could remember anything from them. But as a kid I know lots of people who did leather work and most of that was holster work. For several decades all of the leather gear that the Ft. Worth police carried was custom made by Lt. Oliver Ball (homicide cmdr). When I got old enough to need a holster I just went to one of the neighbors and they could make up whatever you wanted and for not much money. I guess that's where the term "good ole days" comes from. But time goes on and I moved away and those old masters passed away and some of that skill was lost. I never really cared for the floral patterns that were popular in those days, but now I'm older I've grown to appreciate it, I just never learned how to do it. That's something I need to correct. Just bought a book on it yesterday and found a place for a lesson. Now to find the time. I'll post one when I do one. CH

ah, its really not anything to worry over, the guy ( a leather repair shop ) was not an 'expert' in making holsters.
he and i both took a shot at it and things didnt turn out , a learning experience for both of us i guess

i got into alot of hobbies myself, cuz i cant affort to pay the going rate, and anything new i learn along the way , surely cant hurt me
yeah, that'd be great, post a pic or two of what you come up with. anything hand/home made anymore is a drying art, with damn near everything coming from india, china or where ever. its nice to know that there are ppl out there still making things they want.
