wadless loads?
« on: April 27, 2010, 04:12:43 PM »
After much back and forth, arguing with myself like a nutjob off his meds, I think I have talked myself into a Bond Arms Snake Slayer 4.  Being the tinkerer that I am, I have looked into blowing out 9.3x74R brass for full length brass 410 shells.  Is there any real need for a wad in a load like this for a derringer?  Would a card on top of the powder and a card on top of the shot be sufficient?

Also, anyone have a powder suggestion for short short barrels.  No need for a slow powder that will just create a 3' fireball.  I've reloaded for pistol and revolver, but never for shotgun.  Edit... Duh..pistol and RIFLE.

The 303Brit looks like it will be limited to 2.5" cases, while the 9.3 will give you 3" magnum.  I thought that since shotgun case measurements are figured with the crimp open, a brass shell could be made for a finished measurement of 3" (or 2.93" in the case of the 9.3x74).  I've also seen where there's a wildcat 11.4x74R.  Someone came up with that to eliminate the bullet jump that results from shooting 45 colt in the 45/410 chambers.  Now I realize that in a derringer it's most likely wasted effort, but it would definitely draw attention at the range shoving what looks like an African big game cartridge into a derringer.  LOL

Actually their isn't much of a wad in a .410 to start with, and as for pellet distortion, that shouldnt even come into the picture at the ranges you'll be shooting, as to powder and pressures, that's a whole new game...........steg
