Hey Guys,

  Just for fun.

"The Handi-Rifle is the [insert make & model of an automobile] of rifles."

I vote for the VW Beetle.  :-)

I'd be inclined to think of them as the model T, A simple work horse for the masses. The VW was Germanys model T BTW and the only car to ever outsell the T.

I'd say anything with a Chevy 350 V8 engine.

Parts are cheap.
Can modify for racing or mud bogging.
A tried and true design that lasts and lasts.
Anybody can work on them.

To me it's like all of the Ford Mustangs, As a base car, they are all pretty good you can get one in many configurations from mild to wild, and in many different conditions from rough to show room ready. For those inclined, you can add or subtract what ever you desire to modify it on a whim. Most parts are everywhere for them,so changing things out or doing daily repairs on them is pretty straight forward and pretty damn easy since we already have our own Chilton's manual available for free in the FAQ's. Another nice thing about them if you do want to take it to a specialty shop and really trick it out, that is pretty easy as well. You can spend a little at a time,or go whole hog and have a full blown one all at once. The choice is up to the owner..

find it hard to think of a car that can change from one thing to another so quickly.
After all presto chango and a handi can go from a small game gun (22hornet)  to a varmint gun (223 204...), to a big game rifle 30-30, 308, 30-06....), to a heavy camp cannon (45-70), to a shotgun, and not accounting for the same class caliber with different scopes.  or being reemed out to a different caliber.
maybe on of the cars that can turn into a boat or plane.
ok if you can make a car that can be a sadan, convertible, pick up,sports car, and a 4X4 then you have a handi.   :)

Another vote for "Jeep"...but it's gotta be an older Jeep.  The newer ones have too much plastic and, except for some of the Rubicons, are basically minivans.   No plastic bumpers.  If you can't use a Hi-Lift jack...it's not a Jeep.

But it was not a 4X4 or have a way to make it pick up.  Also way too under powered.

Initially I liked the Jeep--but then I thought about all the money I spent on replacement elbows from wrenching on Jeeps. I think it's more like a Toyota P/U. One with a 4 cylinder 22R. It might be slow, but it will always start/fire and it will always get the job done. And chicks dig Jeeps, not Handi-Rifles.

Jeep CJ-7 (kinda like what Dweezil said)

or... OR... **OR**

The Kawasaki KLR650 (with or without a sidecar)

(I have a Jeep Cherokee XJ and a KLR650, and I'd have to say the Cherokee is more like a lever action than a single shot.  ;D)

With a Handi, you can add barrels.  Hence the sidecar analogy.  Also the CJ analogy because you can customize with various tops and doors and lift kits and tires....
