H & R may/04/1901 16ga

can anyone tell me if this old h&r has any value. it is a 16ga with 30" barrel
it says (CHOKE) on the barrel.the bore is like chrome no pits. there is no
looseness (slop) in the receiver to barrel.  thanks for any help.  joe.t.

It is a 1940 model. Nice gun. Value isssssssssssss. Well if it was your grampa's it's worth a billion $$$$$$$$. If ya got it from a flea market it's worth what ya paid for it or if your like me got to be worth more than I paid for it. Fact is it's what ya can get for it if your selling anywhere from $50 to $300.  Great old gun that can still be used or very nice hanging on the wall. It's kind of like selling a bottle of water try and sell it to a guy who is standin in the creek with the water to his knees you may not get much...sell that same bottle of water to a guy standing in the desert with the sand to his knees and you will get every nickle and dime he has in his pockets. hey joe, we was just pickin'. i'm sure you could get a bit more than that for it. by the way, the "choke" stamping means the choke was bored in and not just the swaging a lot of inexpensive guns had. this means a backbore reamer on a long shaft with the right amount of taper was run in from the chamber end and stopped to where they wanted the choke. for what it's worth, bubba. like the injun sez: go kill you a nice tom with it and hang the gun on the rack you make from the feet and beard. just a thought.

Actually, that shotgun is a Model 1900 - production was discontinued prior to 1940.  The "toggle" head on the removeable hinge pin is the identifier on this piece.  The 'A' letter prefix on this and other older shotgun models made by H&R indicated large frame and had nothing to do with the letter coding begun in 1940.

Only on some of the earlier, turn-of-the-century hinged frame revolvers.  Bill's research lists these.  The info will be included in his book on H&Rs.

Hi guys, I am resurrecting this old topic because of some help I am looking for. A friend from church (also my friendly gunsmith) has aquired a model 900(1900?) H&R shotgun, well he has aquired most of it anyway. He got everything except the removable hinge pin. I saw him at church today and knowing I was a Handiholic he asked me for some help. He wants to make up a hinge pin. He told me he bought the latch (somewhere?) a has determined that 3/8 drill rod will work for the pin but now would like to either see a hinge pin or even some pictures of a complete pin and any springs. levers, cut or whatever is present in/on a complete pin to replicate one for his gun. If anyone out there has an old H&R with the removeable hinge pin could contact me to help I would appreciate it. I would ideally like to see if I could borrow the hinge pin just long enough for him to examine and measure it and then immediately return it (I would of course pay all mailing and insurance costs) or if that is not possible perhaps you could remove the pin and send me a few pictures of the pin next to a ruler with a brief description of it and it's parts (springs/levers/cutouts, etc).
 
I would like to help him out for all the kind help he has given to me and many others over the years, so thanks for any and all help you can offer, including directing me to someplace that may have this info or somewhere I might buy a hinge pin for him....<><....

Link below is to the first page of Numrich's listing for the H&R 1900.  First item is a parts list and schematic for $1.50.  They also list some parts for the receiver but the names they give don't make sense to me.

Thanks for the info BB, I was thinking that perhaps #10 was the hinge pin, but I'm not sure....<><....
 
A further check has revealed #10 is the ejector. The removable hinge pin is not shown....<><....
