35 Remington 14" barrel
« on: April 29, 2010, 02:58:25 PM »
I'm just wondering what you people think of the Contender with a 14" barrel in a 35 Remington. I just picked one up today and haven't got a chance to try it out yet. Are factory 35 loads ok to shoot out of the contender or are they to much.  Thanks
if it didn't kill me it must have worked

The factory ammo will be just fine. No problems or issues with pressures. You may find you'll be able to get better accuracy and more versatility from your barrel if you handload for it however. Mine prefers my handloads to Rem factory stuff.

My .35 Rem super 14 likes the new Hornady Leverevolution 200 gr better than any tthing else I tried. I loaded about 60 shells of various loads and tried them all. It shot ok out to 50 yards but when I tried the Hornady LR it shot so much better that I am going to stick with it for deer hunting. I am not planning on shooting long range, it is mostly going to be my treestand gun for closer deer.

I have had one for years and it is a favoriate. I shot Rem 180Gr from it but lately I have been shooting the RCBS 200 Gr Cast GC bullet. I can get 1" at 100Yards with this bullet. I have not used it on a deer yet but I am sure it will work just fine. J.Michael

If you handload get yourself a Lyman "M" expander die. I load up to 180gr jacketed in my 357 Herrett but also shoot cast .38 bullets for practice. 1-1/4" at 100 yards out of mine with hunting loads.
