i kinda like the idea of listening to heather ,in her ideas.. she is after all a woman ,an has first hand knowledge of that life..
i know being married ,,most all my life.. i was careful in working with the opposit sex..
i never allowed myself to work with a woman ..once she devulged anything to me about the failings of her husband..she may have just wanted to talk..but it opens too many possiblities up for inappropriate feelings to find root,,between her an myself..dangerouse area,,an any children of her or my marriage ,would pay the highest price..just don t go there if you are married.. jmo slim

Norway, Canada, Spain and Australia have had women serving on submarines for about 15 years. Has anyone heard of any issues they've had?

None of those navies operate the way we do.  They are all (with the exception of rare deployments and cruises) a coastal navy.  A big difference than a boomer whose role is to stay down deep for weeks or even months at a time.  By the way, I work with several submarine commanders.  They (to a man) say that we are also the only navy which ROUTINELY operates deep.  Not that that has ANYTHING to do with women on board.  Most of the other navies rarely operate below about 350-400 feet.  We routinely operate below 750 and down to 1200 or so.

It was said that the first time women served on a carrier 50 or so out of over 400 got in trouble . Humans will be humans  ;D so they have to decide how to deal with it on board . I worked on Army bases that when marching troops always had women along riding in jeeps ( yea I'm old ) cause when with child could not march .
here is my ? if a navy spends what it cost to train sub officers and one gets in a family way is that cost effective ?In time of need is it responsible ?  Should they be required to go on birth control ? As a tax payer i don't want my dollars wasted do you ? Male or female they commit to sub duty and should protect the trust placed on them as they are speical . Its more than a job .

I predict that if women are allowed on subs, before it's over seamen will be discharged.

Gents, its a family site. My daughter is a member, and I'd like her to continue to enjoy this site without feeling like everyone else here is a dirty old man. Let's bring the conversation up to dignified levels again.

Rustyinfla's post can be taken according to where your mind is.  Taken literally, with the spelling he used, it is PC and that's what really counts.

Where else would it go really ? Women have proven their ablity to get the work done in command positions . The only real concern would be interaction with males with regard to quarters , bathing and  off duty hours personal time. Many men and women enter into relationships while working jobs that are less confined just what would one expect here ?
As far as children reading - is it any worst that the talk they hear in sex ed classes ? not to mention the play ground and locker rooms . Mine came home talking about options with regard to sex when they took sex ed classes in public schools , 7 grade i think it was.  its bad to be sure but its when good parents step up and say that's what the school believes but this is what we believe and make the case for good.
Women and men went to space togather they can go to war if need be . Maybe they need cameras on every ship that covers every sq inch .

SHOOTALL you and I agree on most everything most of the time, but the point here is, it is not up to ANY OF US to educate each others kids on this site in regards to sex. Especially with vulgarity. That is not an education, it is trash talk that doesn't belong in public. I don't use that kinda talk in front of kids or women, and won't allow it in the presence of either. Even at my age. It's called decency. This isn't an adult back yard BBQ, or bar. It's a family oriented forum.

Dee i was pointing out the poor condition our country has dropped to . I was shocked when my kids came home with the BS they had been fed . I only offered what i did with regard to admiting there are choices as the school had pointed out but they were not always the right choice and we picked up where the school stopped and took it on to what the Bible teaches us to do with regard to sex. As far as trash talk it seems what my kids heard in school was trash  in my mind Sorry if i offended anyone .

I don't think you offended anyone at all. It to me was just a comparison that I doubt compares. The schools teach what the parents ALLOW to be taught. School board members are elected and can be UN elected. It is up to the parents to monitor what is being taught. I have a cousin whom was on the school board. He was one of several members that voted to take Prayer out of school. Then when the curriculum went south on sex education he took his kids out of the system and started home schooling while still remaining on the school board.
The message he sent? It ain't good enough for my kids, but it is yours. ::) He was a one termer.

And the other version of PC pops up finally :).  I find it incredibly ironic that a group that will ridicule someone to no end if they even perceive you to be doing the "political correct" dance will go exactly the reverse when the topic crosses into the territory where THEY find it distasteful.

Pearl of wisdom: a lot of the things you ridicule as being "PC" are simply considered by the people saying them to be maintaining common decency.  Remember that when the position is reversed.

Here the school board is appointed . And most of the parents seem to trust/not care what they teach . The only hope we have is in the Charter schools that are starting up.
There is an old joke that rings true - As long as test are given people will pray in school.

Lest anyone forget, this is not a public forum. This is a privately owned and operated site with a commitment to family readership. GB makes the rules until such time as you buy the site.

Regardless of what you may think, most men know better than to talk crude in front of women and children. It's a sign of deference, not being PC. Calling it PC is a red herring, and double entendre is not a shield from intent.

Vulgar is vulgar. It has nothing to do with PC, but much to do with crudeness. If you think it's ok to behave, and talk that way in front of your women, and your kids, then do so. In front of other folks' women and kids, do so at your own peril. Eventually you'll meet someone whom disagrees to the point of intolerance, and will not put up with it. That too, is a "pearl of wisdom".

PC is a label used to force others into doing or not doing something the dumbocrats feel should or should not be done. It is a freedom robber and should not be tolerated by free men and women.
Never compare PC with acceptable manners the two seldom exist in the same circles much less sentence. Manners evolved over the years and are based on up holding each of our freedoms . IE you have the freedom of speech . yell fire in a packed room and see where it gets you . That's bad manners and illegal around here . Nothing to do with PC. Same goes for forcing kids listen to foul lang. or be subjected to sights their parents feel they should not see.
