Went Pawn Shoppin' Yesterday
« on: May 01, 2010, 05:21:44 AM »
I saw an early Marlin 1894 in .44 Magnum with a cheap Simmons 4X scope on it.  It had been hunted with some.  They wanted $999.00 for it.  I didn't even ask why. I did find a T/C Renegade for $63.00 out the door.  It's pretty rough.

Since CAS took off so big, people seem to think the 1894's and the 92's are worth gold.  Glad I've got mine at reasonable prices.  DP

There is a pawn shop close to me and they have guns( all kinds) every place you look. I mean everywhere.
Try and do business with them and you soon find out why they have so many. You`d think every weapon in there was serial #1 !   They seem to pull prices out of the air.  Counter people are nice enough but.............the prices!

Hardly ever see a gun in a pawn shop in this area any more unless it is some elcheapo single shot shotgun that won't sell well at auction.

I think it must be like that with every pawn shop. I won't even go to a pawn shop to look at the guns anymore. They always want above retail for a used and ,most of the time, piece of junk. I prefer little hometown gun shops. They usually will work with you on the price. Unfortunately there aren't any around this area.

I find good deals all the time.  Today I found a NAA mini revolver for $100.  Over the weekend it was a Remington 1100 for $175.  Last week it was a pre-safety Marlin 336 for $150.  Just gotta find those shops that are willing to deal.

My local pawn shop has some good stuff coming through regularly.  Sometimes good prices, sometimes high (to me).  All in all a good place to shop.  They recently had a Winchester Model 94 in 30 WCF that was 1929 date.  About 90%.  Nice rifle.  Sold quick with fair price.  I bought a2008 1895CB.  They are reputable too.

My best deals come from shops that I frequent regularly.  I have seen shops where they have more guns than they can sell due to crazy prices.  Some smart shops make money through numbers, other want to hit a home run on each gun, Retards!

Pawn shopping used to be a fun past time for me. But in the last 5yrs or so, I stopped going, because of the prices and the BS. and there is a fraction of the pawn shops today, that were here 10 yrs ago. Sad ending to an era here in Wyoming.

My favorite shop in Green River was closed the last time I was there to visit. That shopkeeper, we called him the Pope, as that was his last name, was one of the first people I ever knew in when I moved there back in '85 - considered himself the poorman's banker. At Christmas time you could always go in there and he'd have a sack of groceries that you'd leave with. A bygone era, for sure.

What some fellows don't realize is that prices are negotiable at pawnshops.

Anyone that ever shopped at a Bazaar in the middle east will understand that one is supposed to haggle. Anyone that pays sticker price has alot more money than sense.
