New huntin' lands
« on: May 01, 2010, 01:44:04 PM »
Got some good news.  My youngest is moving back from Texas to Ga.  I will finally get to spend some quality time with 2 of my grandchildren.

Better news.  They have rented a refurbished 1838 house with LAND!  Huntin' land.

Can it get any better?  Land to hunt and a boy to hunt with! ;D

Why yes it can!   ;D  You can have a close, personal friend visit you often during hunting season!   :D

Yep', I might need some help instructin' the lad.  He's 8 and a little obstinate...gets it from his grandma.  He's wanting my 357 Handi the little twerp.  Why if I were to give him that, I'd have to buy another one!  Or two.

Finally got the key to the gate this week, and went for a little exploration.  Got a good creek at the bottom, some stands of hardwood, plenty of deer sign and turkey sign.  And ticks.  An abundance of deer ticks.  Me and Sweet Thang had to do the tick removal thing and got about 20 or so off each of us.  I'll have to spray the yard area which is about 3 acres.  I've borrowed a boom sprayer  for my little tractor which will take care of that while I  mow the first time.

I've also found a drag cultivator which I will use for some food plots.  Hung a couple corn feeders as well.

Did ya'll know corn was $7.50 a bag this year?!!... WOW....

My daughter has developed some sort of fear of coyotes, but I told her once she and the son in law and the two kids and three dogs get there the coyotes will hunt a place to hide.  As long as she doesn't leave food waste near the yard to attract them, they will stay away.

And if they don't, we'll stay 'em permanently.

These youngun's have never lived country and are in for a treat.

The old house was built in 1838 and has been modernized, but it still has a narrow staircase and old pine floors, along with pine walls and ceilings.  I love it, they will probably be glad to go when the lease is up.

My youngest grandson has already asked for everything from a 22 to a 375 H&H, (in case of bears).  At 8 years old, he will probably spot a critter behind every bush, which will keep my daughter nervous ;D

Gonna' be fun!

You can count on me Ben.   :)  No attack is to threatening to endure and no sacrafice is to great to make for a friend!   ;D

And uh, um... I'm glad you said "hung a couple a corn feeders."  As in hung high up in a tree for the song birds, squirrels and such...  Now you be sure them ornery Robins and tree rats don't kick out a bunch a that corn so's it's laying around on the ground.  Don't want to take any chance in them deer critters gettin into it.  :-\  Somebody might think you wuz feedin 'em fer nefarious perposes!   ::)

Nothin' nefarius about it.  I just want to see them prosper and grow fat.  I'm an animal lover don't ya' know.  Nothing bothers me more than seeing skinny animals, or deer with little bitty horns from malnutrition.

Not to mention, turkeys gotta' eat too.  Can't have skinny turkeys.

Now, I'm not in control of what eats from this feeder.  Apparently, my only option is to select a time of day for it to dispense.  If a coon is happening by, he gets some.  If a deer...well you get my point.

I should get a medal from the ASPCA ::)

and and PETA will make you a spokesman!   :o
Your loving care of our wild brothers is truely heartwarming.   :)  I think we all should follow your stirling example where ever we happen to have land!   ;D
