Cruising for surplus military prices???

I went to auction arms and gunbroker just for a looksee on where the prices are.  I got sticker shock to see the prices are higher on the C&R stuff thats still being offered by the wholesalers/dealers on the net.  This tells me that some don't have there C&R FFL03 yet?  Get your C&RFFL03 and get the deals now before there gone!!!!!!!  Don't wait another minute.  I think in a short time we won't see these so affordable.

Overview:  I'm sure most will agree years ago this was a poor mans hobby on gun collecting. But i think it will pay off soon and the prices will be near the antique stuff.  In a few years the prices will be out of sight on all surplus military guns i'm sure within the next 5 to 10 years.  I would get what you want now.....

I crusied a little bit not long ago and found that there are still some bargains!  A MAS 36/51 with GL attached went for $251.  I didn't think that was too bad.  I recall a Gun show with MAS 36 and 36/51 when they swamped the imports and the 36 was $150 and looked like new and the 36/51's were $180?  (can'tr recall as only 1 was at the show)  I did have a 49/56 for awhile too but that was pre-reloading days and I let it go before ever even firing it       Maybe someday I will get one again.  They have certainly risen in value/price since I originally bought mine.  It was a good deal at $300......I'll give you $400 for your in the box

Keep your eyes open, every now and then you come accross one.  Pawn shops are still good bait as long as they arent the DREAMERS of the bunch!  One shop I go to has an 1891 Argentine for $735 and of course label it an 8mm cause its a Mauser.  Its a shame.  I mentioned he would close the shop with that still sitting there.

Your right the prices do vary, but some think they have gold and there worth more.  What also cracks me up is the simple military surplus cut down stock hunting rifle.  This is were it gets really silly, i've seen these plain janes price wise go thru the roof and why do i ask?  To me if its in the orginal stock and cut down there goes the value.  Some of these are still a great buy at under $200.

We had a new pawn shop open up here a few years back and it was a honey hole for military surplus guns at very decent prices but that soon changed as his business increased.  He started buy the century crap at the lowest prices and asking top dollar for them, but they were in fair condition.  His trade ins or pawned guns were a great buy for a while too.  I got a sino soviet sks out of there and a brand new yugo m48 still nib cheap.

CBXBOY;  You had a french MAS 49/56 commando rifle and sold it without shooting it?  This is one hot crap fun rifle to shoot wether its in the orginal 7,5 french or the converted one in 308win from century arms.  These are a hoot to shoot and play with.  I think the french 49/56 is the real last great battle rifle.  Being it was designed in '49 and reworked in '56.  I don't think there is a rifle that compares to it after '56 that makes it the last great battle rifle with its real wood stock and solid steel machined receiver.  The sks doesn't come close.

I got my first unissued French MAS 49/56 commando rifle in 7,5 french just as the FNM 7.5mm french ammo became available.  All that was left then was 7,5 french machine gun ammo on links. I did get a 49/56 in 308 too. But my son took it and shot it so i had to get another one he wouldn't share it. All i said was you have to try this one and i never held it again he likes it that much.

And to think it all started out when I bought a Mosin Nagant from my gunsmith for 95 bucks, only to find them being sold by J&G and AIM for $60. Got my C&R, now I have 10 Mosin Nagants, 2 Lee Enfields, a Steyr M95, an SKS, a K98, a CZ52, a CZ82, and an M1895 Nagant revolver.

And I still need a Garand, and an Arisaka, and a 1903............it just doesn't end!

Sounds like your having fun after all i could of drank the money and p!ssed it away and have nothing to show for it.  You don't have an sks,  hakim, rasheed or ljungman yet??  I stayed away from the over priced american made stuff for all these many years.  But its a never ending story buying surplus military guns.  Trust me i know.  It was a cheap hobby at one time but its changing little by little.

  Most pawn shops list prices that are higher than the minimum they are willing to accept. I recently found a Turkish Mauser for 79 dollars at mine. I offered him sixty,he sold it to me for 65. It has a very dirty copper coated bore that seems pretty good underneath it all and even came with such niceties you might want,but not expect to get on a rifle for that price,such as a stock,bolt and trigger assembly The cheapest ones you can find around here are usually around 150 and in pretty sorry shape.
 It was so cheap to start,I didn't really expect him to come down on it,but you allways have to try. You can often get ones that are unreasonably priced for a reasonable price. I think they USUALLY know what they are really worth and put those prices on,because they negotiate prices for a living and know that serious buyers will haggle but some people will just come in and pay it
