In a time when our nations economy is crumbling at a steady rate you guys are advocating for sending more $ overseas???  I don't like California anymore than I like a cold steak, but they are still part of these United States, and when their economy is hurting we feel it all over this nation.  We as states need to stop this in fighting, and come together to get this nation back on track.  Why would we fight a childish boycott on New York tea with another childish boycott on California?  If for no other reason to stop the boycott, remember the more they struggle the more federal money they get which means they will get more of YOUR tax dollars. When we let our prejudices against others dictate our actions we often do things that aren't very smart.  Common sense goes a long way some times.

Childish?
I have always done my best to spend my money where my interests are.
Some call it a boycott I call it not supporting those who are digging the holes that are killing this country.
If threat of hardships are what keeps us from standing firm for what we believe or supporting those who believe as we do then we might as well help California dig the hole and then crawl off in it.
California has long since lost any semblance of America or American values they wont get my support or dollar.

That is your choice, but the original post advocated for sending money to OTHER COUNTRIES when that just baffles me!

Any dollars we as "Boycotters" would send to other countries pales significantly in comparison to the total dollars leaving this country through illegal immigrants sending money "home".

You must have missed the point I made that YOUR money WILL go to California either way.  We boycott them further into depression then the Fed WILL BAIL them out with YOUR TAX dollars.

No, I didn't miss your point. Your point is totally unfounded and therefore moot.  Because, as already mentioned, the FED will bail them out anyways. That is another reason, they don't do much to help themselves, because its pretty much a done deal. Do you actually think, with our buying of their products, they will not collapse? They are long gone. Their boycott of Azizona was nothing more than political posturing. My boycott of Kalifornia is a statement that I don't need them, and would prefer that Kalifornia slip into the ocean.

I gottcha Heather. I tried to make the same point earlier.

The fact is that Cal. is a boil on the butt of America and no amount of salve will make it go away. If anything it just spreads and gets worse. That said, I  don't want to contribute to Cal's. economy even if it is just a few dollars at the grocery store.

As a God-fearing taxpayer, I can do precious little about where or how much Federal money gets sent where. I fully expect any monies sent to any state in bail-out would pale terribly in the face of what has been sent overseas to bail out whomever. BUT, I can control where I spend what few bucks I do have. Lots of stuff have American names and are still made in Japan or Viet Nam or some other place we used to have a military action of some kind. That's my point.

A boycott against the world's 8th largest economy? At best it'll be symbolic; like kicking dirt on a giant's shoes.

However, the effect will be two-fold if a boycott involves food. CA grows ~50% of the fruits/vegetables in the US and they're mainly harvested and processed by illegals. The majority of US canned goods, regardless of where the label says they were packed, contain produce from CA. Eat any cheese? Good chance it came from CA. Check your seafood. CA ranks in the top 5 producing states and guess who catches and processes it?

Also, aside from defense contractors, the majority of lower-level CA manufacturing jobs are now held by illegals, their children and grandchildren. If you want to 'buy American' be aware that if the product was made in CA, illegals had a hand in making it.

Buy any products imported from Asia? The majority come in via CA ports. Their sale, processing, transport, warehousing, etc. accounted for ~11% of the entire US GDP in 2008. Be careful with cotton clothing; CA produces a lot of cotton (illegals at the farms again) and most is shipped directly to Asia to come back as clothes.

Anyway, good luck with your boycott. You might consider that CA ranks #4 as the home state of your fellow GBO members  ;)

Victor3, you are probably right that much of the agri-business in California is highly dependent on Latino, or Mexican-Americans, but I would question that the majority are illegals.  I'm quite sure that many are in fact Americans and others have work visas.  And yes, there no doubt are some illegals too, but that certainly isn't exclusive to California.  I live in Washington (the state) and it is a sure thing that there are lots of illegals here; the same goes for Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Missouri....

My point is that California is no different than much of the rest of the country.  They have a state government and lots of municipal governments that are far too sympathetic toward illegals, but the same is also true of many other places.  I'm not ready to chop our country into pieces over this issue.  What we need is to elect people to power who have respect for our laws and aren't beholding to any ethnic group at the expense of another.

The point was, WTH will boycotting either accomplish?  Why have the Kalifornicators fired the first shot?  It was posted as sarcastic in the first place...although there is no tone of that in the original post or later comments - till now.

I don't understand why the other border States do not pony up and get behind Arizona.  That should be the tactic to force the issue of illegal immigration to a head at the Federal level.  State Successionists.  Save you Confederate dollars for the South shall Rise Again!

Well, I don't have any Confederate dollars.  My biggest worry is that our real currency will take a big hit and there really isn't any good way that I've seen to insure against that.  So does anyone know where there's a big supply of Confederate bucks?

Perhaps if we focused on the root of this problem a boycott of California would be unnecessary.
Just like California the federal government has ceased to replicate America or American values.
It's the federal government that breeds parasitical cultures like California's.  If the host can no
longer feed them the parasites will fall off and die. We need to boycott the federal government ,take the people's check book away from the sycophants. Maybe after we are reduced to nothing, and we have nothing to loose. For now we are to concerned with our standard of living to worry about a way of life.

Although boycott is a great idea, and I support it, it is difficult in these times. With these times it is difficult to boycott.
