I think it's the same, no matter where you go; the do-gooders who always work their way into government and bureaucracies never quit finding ways to justify and rationalize ever increasing spending. With the economy not what it should be and a pretty high unemployment rate, our local fire protection distract has decided it woul be great to build a new $3.5 million fire station. Not that we don't already have a fire station, but they just want to have a better one. Our fire station has always been manned by volunteers, but now the do-gooders think we should have some full-time people.
To my knowledge there have been zero fires in our little community. This isn't even a town--just a suburb. The proposal goes ahead unless the citizens raise a petition to stop it. Our property taxes will go up by $1500, or more per year. I'm already paying more in property taxes per year than what my house payments were when the bank and I shared ownership. We're only kidding ourselves when we think we own something. The real owners are the state, county, port district, school district, diking district, fire district, library district....
