While in Viet Nam in 1962 I was issued a Case model 6065 XX (Folding Hunter), it is a double bladed 5 ˝ inch (closed) with a Clip and Skinning blade, both are approximately 4 inches long.  This has been my pocket knife on almost every hunting trip since I returned home, it has skinned and cut up more deer than I can remember.  The blades hold an edge well and normally only require hitting the stone once a year..  I bought a newer version (different model number) of this knife at a gun show several years ago, it is almost identical to my “old vet” except it has the SS blades, it doesn’t hold an edge well enough to skin a deer using both blades.

I have a collection of Yellow Boys, the old ones are definitely better made than the new ones.

Speaking of Smoky Mt Knife Works, I was there a few years ago, I was amazed at the price of some of the Case Knifes, I remember one that had a $5000. price tag, don’t remember what it was made of but think it had titanium blades.  It was too rich for this ole boy.  ???

Newbie here at GBO , but must say I own both Case and Bear and to me they are really hard to tell apart  quality wise... But if I had to have only one I think my 4th generation Carbon Bear Barlow would be it.  Bear seems a little more substantial in the hand, again just my .02

I and the two guys I hunt with all use case knives. I carry a trapper in my pocket every day. I think I cleaned 4 deer with it opening weekend last year. I've had it about 5 years and Mine isn't loose at all.
They both carry case pocket knives and carry case folding hunters for deer hunting. I've used Bucks Pumas and seen other people using other stuff and case suits me fine.

I always wondered if the same Case that made the knives was the one that made the heavy equipment (backhoes and stuff)

Nope.  Case's parent company is Zippo; they're both located in Bradford, PA and are pretty small in physical size.  I used to drive past on my way up to NYS.

I only recently got me some case knives.   I bought a yeller trapper in Nov and then I was selling some chevy motor parts and a guy sweetened the deal with some case knives, so I ended up with a trapper in a 1 in 250 swirly aqua blue and then a yeller trapperlock.

my impressions so far:
I eat a lot of fruit at work trying to live longer and though I rinse off my knifes the blades are darkening but it actually looks kinda cool.

the long straight blades on the trapper and trapper lock are very good butt out tools

I have a whole bag of fixed blade skinners in my truck and the deer ends up getting skinned with the diminutive case pocket knife.

I really want a trapper hunter but wish it were just a tad bigger.  I realize gut hooks are a devisive subject around here and though I have never used one I'm wanting to try but don't know how I could sharpen it when needed.
