In a not so long ago time, there was no government in many territories to take care of the citizens, so the citizens took care of themselves.  It may be that time again. ???

You guys realize that this movie has been in production for almost a year, and is based on a trailer that you saw 3 years ago right? Ie, before the immigration law. Very naive just to believe Fox News.

Rodriguez Filming 'Machete' at Capitol
Updated: Thursday, 27 Aug 2009, 11:54 PM CDT
Published : Thursday, 27 Aug 2009, 12:37 PM CDT

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- A political rally being staged near the Texas Capitol had nothing to do with real Republicans or Democrats. A stretch of Congress Avenue was closed to traffic Thursday as
part of filming for the Robert Rodriguez action movie "Machete," featuring Robert De Niro.

One scene included a red, white and blue decorated stage with a banner saying "Vote for Senator McLaughlin." De Niro, in a suit, red tie and cowboy hat, appeared to be giving a campaign speech.

Rodriguez previously said the movie will also feature Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan and Cheech Marin. It is based on the "fake" trailer in the 2007 movie "Grindhouse." Several of Rodriguez's productions including the "Spy Kids" movies were filmed in Texas. His Troublemaker Studios is located in Austin.

So what you're saying is they've been targeting anti-immigration politics for over a year in Arizona, with a violent movie plot? Oh, so the pro-illegal immigration movement has not suddenly woken up to how bad it really is, but has been protesting for a long time? Do tell.  ::)

WH, no one is claiming this is in response to Arizona's recent law; if you yourself also do a little background you will see that its targeting Arizona for its historical anti-illegal immigration stance. What is significant is the release of the trailer in conjunction with live debate ... that's no coincidence.

This movie was conceived of at least 3 years ago, has been pitched to investors and had financing for over a year and was in production for almost a year. It really has little to do with the politics of the last month as the movie was set for release this fall and the trailer was coming out around now anyway. They did not just whip this together in a few allnighters.

Actually, I can't see any downside to introducing the current crop of senators to an angry crowd wielding machetes.

 :)
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

First off, I would like to TeamNelson's original post a bit, and I hope he will not mind.
The movie is about an anti-ILLEGAL-immigration US senator.  After all, few people are against LEGAL immigration and I can't think of any senator who is against it, done legally.
What many liberals are conveniently overlooking is the fact that numerous people who were elected to serve the citizens of the United States and uphold her laws have abdicated their responsibility and are giving aid and support to a mob who, the first contact they had with this country...was breaking it's laws at FELONY level !
Those elected officials should be run out of office !
No wonder we have an administration that is doing it's best to trash the Constitution. The administration and it's backers have made a lifelong habit of supporting all kinds of criminals who have broken our laws. They didn't even choose to try a bunch of black panther hooligans who intimidated people away from the voting booths in Philadelphia on the eve of Obama's election victory ! ::)
Obviously, the only laws they feel are worthy of obeying are the ones which favor their positions.

I am waiting for the sequel to "machete", entitled "Ruger LCP", where it shows thne intended assassin lying on his back, machete in hand, with a neat .35 cal hole between his eyes. :D

BTW: Don't be surprised by wreckhog..he always defends the leftists..no matter how radical they are..

The movie is about a bad ass Mexican. If you were a fan of ultra violent, retro, low budget movies, like I am, you might get that.

I'm not certain if you're being intentionally obtuse or if you come by it natural, but most folks understand that Hollywood times the release of trailers, and movies ... especially ones that have content related to world events ... at the moments they think will make the most money, which is usually at those moments it will create the most stir. This thread I started will probably encourage some folks to buy tickets, and discourage others (which is my hope). But either way, Machete got PUBLICITY which is what its all about. So yes it was intentionally timed for release; the highest paid actor on the set is the one who plays the anti-illegal immigration senator, so evidently his is not a minor role to the story. And the plot is very clearly about an assassination plot against him BECAUSE he is against illegal immigration. You don't have to be wearing a tinfoil hat to figure out this is engineered ... they didn't just happen to get lucky on the day they released their trailer. So as TM7 said, baiting a race war for 3 years.

Seems to me the motive is the same regardless of Arizona's new law, (which is to enforce the federal law). Progressives have been attacking Arizona for years about them enforcing the illegal imigration laws. Just ask Sheriff Joe Arpaio. All he does is enforce the law,(very well I might add), and he is consistently attacked for doing so. I'm surprised the movie isn't about the assassination of a sheriff.
I'm sure the movie people are very pleased about the fuss over Arizona. It will be easier to make a buck off this rag of a movie. Not to mention promoting their views and violence.

Machete is not a traditional "Hollywood" movie. It is not a pure independant movie either. Viral marketing is becoming more important. Rodriguez controls more post production creative work than the usual director.  He does that by having his own companies to do the work, instead of outsourcing. And Rodriguez has a well earned rep for bringing in projects early and under budget, which ultimately gives him more autonomy than the usual director.

That said, what you are talking about does not exist. Trailers are a component in an ad campaign. That was booked in the usual way sales are made in America. Over golf. Many months, or even a year in advance of when you see the trailer.

As an example, if you go into theatres this weekend, you might see a trailer for Super 8. A movie coming out in summer 2011, not 2010.

wreckhog;
Let's get back on track; the discussion was about the substance and thrust of the mnovie..not the producers biography. The arguement being made all too often is that anyone agreeing with the Arizona law is "anti-immigration"..which is an outright lie ! Most people are against ILLEGAL immigration..you know; ..like "breaking and entering" !

No biggie, it's only a movie. We have the real thing going on here in Arizona. The only difference is the coyotes are doing this kinda stuff to their cargo.
