it is a farce and a waste of time. once in a while someone shoots a pig, but the story that they are a big problem is untrue. if you want to see some irritated people, go down there and start asking people about it. if they dont like hogs, they HATE potential hog hunters.
A father of a son on, my sons, baseball team did just that a few years ago. When "the sightings" were 1st brought to the attention of the public. Thought He and a friend would get on the ground floor and see what happened. At the time LaCrosse was one of the areas. They do HATE potential Hog hunters in that area. From a polite NO, to a normal of RUDE, It's mine and you can't have it attitude. BUT, we shall see what happens. Wait until there attitude lets the hogs multiply and now they'll want our beloved DNR to pay them for damaged crops et.al. Of course I'm speculating on that, but then again why would that be any different from past deals made by our beloved DNR and the land owners who ARE part of the problem?
Working your ass off hunting hogs is a given, in fact that is what it is all about, hunting, and when you do succeed it is just the icing. Your lesson in futility will come from asking or trying to succeed in permission to hunt someones land. Come to think of it, your probably better off socializing with the local bar flys, you will have more success and your headache will be well earned, by not banging your head against a wall, dealing with landowners.
