Had good luck with my Savage MkII again
« on: May 09, 2010, 09:06:49 AM »
Got pleasantly surprised when I took out my Savage the other day with Wolf ME ammo.  The conditions weren't ideal, but they weren't horrible either, there was a bit of wind that was pretty inconsistant, but that was about it.  I did find myself either waiting for a good condition to shoot, or working the bolt like I was at a match before the conditions went south again.  The Wolfe ME isn't the rifle's favorite ammo generally, but still managed to produce a .166" average for (6) 5-shot groups at 25yds.  At 50yds it averaged all of the groups into .432", but I can contribute that to shooter error and the wind.  I did take it back to 100yds as well, and enjoyed picking off pieces of clay targets, but when I shot a couple of 10-shot groups the averages opened up to 1.8" and 1.9" for each group.

good gun. I have the non-accutrigger mark II, but I did the trigger shim trick and got it shooting great with cheap ammo. I can't find that good stuff locally, maybe if I go to a gun show.
