Wouldn't that be a nice upper to have. Wondering if it could be made to shoot on a platform that could be put on a 223 /5.56 lower. OH the possibilities!

.35 WSSM. This has been done, along with everything from .223 WSSM and up.

To do .35 Remington (or anything else longer than the .223) on a 5.56 lower, you'd have to build your upper as a single-shot bolt-action. This has been done with a few cartridges (including the .50 BMG).

If you're wanting it as a semi-auto, you wouldn't be able to use the 5.56 lower. The rounds are too long to run through the magazine well. It looks like it would be short enough to fit in the AR-10, but you'd have to have a custom bolt face.

358 Winchester on an AR10 platform with 20 or 22" barrel should be a dandy hunting set up for deer, BB and elk within a reasonable range.

I have a AR10 in 308 and it weighs about the same as an abrams tank! so if i cant get it in a 5.56 frame I'm cancelling my order!

Why not neck up a 6.8 SPC to 35, or a 7.62x39 up to 35? I bet the vel. would be about the same.

7.62x39 => .35x39 would be something like 8.89x39mm. Doable, though I don't know that buying brass cased, boxer primed 7.62x39 cases for the conversion would necessarily be terribly economical.

Might not be able to do the 6.8 without some trimming since the .35 caliber bullets will be longer and the 6.8 SPC is 6.8x43mm already. Worth considering if it could be made to work, though. Also, the 6.8 SPC looks like it may stick around for a while, so brass should be much easier to come by.

35 caliber AR15 suitable wildcats have already been done 6 diffrent ways to Sunday

the russian have a 9x39

you have the 35gremlin or 35x39

35 wssm

357 auto

and a few others. But 35 Remington is far too long to function in an ar15

I shoot a 30 HRT or a rimless 30 herrett formed on the 6.8spc case instead of the traditional 30-30. since there is a 357 herrett wildcat for contenders already I see no reason you couldn't make a 357 HRT for the AR15

Which one would offer the best "bang for the buck". I know the .50 Beowuf uses the same bolt, kind of a weird cartridge. I also know the 6.8 is popular, but ammo is expensive, and both barrel and bolt has to be changed.

depends on the intended use.

What exactly do you intend to do with such a setup.

I suspect that .50 Beowulf ammo is going to turn out to be much more expensive than 6.8 SPC ammo. And with the 6.8 getting more and more popular, ammo will probably be much easier to come by than .50 Beowulf, too.

What bbl. length is best for the 6.8 ? Is 16 to short ? I know of one that was cut to 16 from 20 and accy. suffered

I was thinking deer hunting, possibly black bear or elk. Just wondering if the rifle can be made for big game. I know the .50 Beowolf is like a light 45-70 load. Why didn't they make the Beowolf in a .45 caliber for more bullet selection? I was just thinking about a "one gun" does it all. I know poachers in Africa shoot elephants with the AK-47. However, fmj rounds and 30 round magazines will penetrate the elephants vitals.

There are a lot of hunting rounds, the 6.5 grendel, 7.62x39mm, 243 and 25 wssm, 30 AR, 6.8 sps, 450 bushmaster, 500 beowulf then single shots from 308 to 50 bmg that I know of. A whole lot more as well. There are caliber for hunting from squirrels to elephants.

Then you need to both forget "bang per buck" and the 6.8spc (i don't care how far away a certain stunt elk was killed)

There are a couple cartridges suitable for elk AT CLOSE RANGE
the 50 beowulf you mention, also 458 socom (mid level 45-70 equivalent) and to a lesser extent 450 bushmaster

I have shot, and am impressed with a buddy's 450 Bushmaster. 250 grain plastic tip bullet at 2200 fps, on an AR-15 lower. Kick isn't bad, it is accurate (about 1 1/2 inch at 100 yards from a steady rest). I bet it would be an impressive big game thumper under 200 yards. The 450's ballistics are within 100 fps of what a .358 Win. will do with a 250 grain bullet.

I thought the same thing only with a CZ 527. the round is too long for the mag.
The new 30 Remington AR could be necked up to 358 and 35 Rem could be douplicated.
I then thought making 357 Auto mag (44 Auto mag necked down - 44 auto is a 308 shell cut at 44 Mag length with a 429 bullet in it)
With the 357 Auto mag using the 358 Rifle bullets in 200 grain round nose would give you the length of a loaded 223 that would work.
It would be a 358 Win Special or 35 Rem in ballistics. It will not fit in the CZ 527 as the .473 base of the auto mag is larger than the bolt face on the CZ rifle but it will work with the AR 15.
There is also a 358 version of the 7.62X39 round out there that is a little slower than 35 Rem that would work. The down side is Brass 7.62 X39 is expensive but the auto mag can be made from any 308 family, 8 or 7mm mauser, or 30-06 Family brass that has cracked at the neck.
