Pros and cons of the Blr 81
« on: May 10, 2010, 02:19:30 PM »
I like this rifles looks but it seems heavy in the buttstock. I'm seriously thinking of buying a .308 in about two weeks but a little hesitant due to it's weight distribation. How do these little rifles feel to you ?
Also is the .308 a good caliber for general hunting like deer, boar black bear etc.

Mine is the steel Jap model in .358.  It does feel a tad light on the fore end but I'm not troubled by it.

Everyone says the .308 is a good hunting cartridge.  I've shot a few deer with the .308 as well as my .358 and they both work fine.  In my limited experience, the .358 is more likely to make deer DRT when they get hit.  Doesn't mean the .308 can't do it, just my experience that the .358 does it more often.  I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to hunt elk with a .308 Win. if it was the biggest gun I had access to.

Your experience may vary.

Thanks, I appreciate your reply. I already have a .358 just like yours . I was going to geet a .308 just for deer hunting as it reaches out a might farther.  I've shot 23 bears with my .358 and it really thumps them !

I live in Missouri and drive to Manitoba every spring and hunt with different outfitters. I started going to Manitoba in 1986 prior to that I hunted on my own in Colorado but they closed down the baiting and I'm getting too oldd to do it yourself anymore.
