Well jpred1, I thought I made my opinion of what I saw on the dash cam pretty clear. I saw no reason to shoot. It was obviously an attempt to provoke the officer to stop them when they tore out at the stop sign so fast but, I don't know the reason why they did it. The guy wasn't armed as I understand it, and I didn't see at any point, any reason that would have made "me" shoot him. And of course the cop should be held accountable.
I have made stops on Banditos, Angels, and Disciples, and as long as I stayed on the throttle side of the handle bars, and they were straddling the bike with the kick stand up, I didn't feel all that threatened. I usually INSTRUCTED THEM to leave the kick stand UP. I knew what, and whom I was dealin with, and the biker knew what, and whom, he was dealin with. I conducted what ever business I had, and that was it.
As far as the officers being provoked, that has happened more than once to me, and many officers I know. It usually HAS TO BE dealt with. Other wise it will escalate into something worse, and if ignored almost always does. I have had morons that thought they had hot cars, AND MOTORCYCLES, intentionally try to provoke me into a chase. I ignored them, as long as I could, and as I said, it usually got worse when ignored. What I usually did, was pretend to be trying to ignoring him, until I got other units into position, and then he (the moron) suddenly realized that he had no place to run, nor could he run. Then we got our business taken care of, and "my" point was made with the idiot in question.
You cannot out run Motorola.
As far as these cops myronman is talking about, my question would be: Where are the Prosecutors? There are indeed bad cops, but the Bar Ass. has more than it's fair share also.
Now I had a Sgt once that thought he was a Casanova with a married woman, until her grocery clerk husband found out, and took batting practice with his head. When he got out of the hospital he was fired. No charges were filed on Mickey Mantle.
But on the other hand, a local "bad ass" thought he too was a Casanova with a married woman, and DARED ANYONE to challenge him, until he stepped out of a motel room, and ran into a 12 gauge. Did you know that #6 high brass at close range takes the starch right out of jeans, "and egos", and turns denim into confetti? No one was filed on then either.
