Thought you guys would get a kick out of this.  A 3rd grader was sent home in tears and given a week's detention for possession of a Jolly Rancher (for those not familiar, it's just a small piece of hard candy).  Apparently it violated the school's "Minimal Nutrition Food" policy:

Heard about this yesterday, It was all the buzz locally and in Houston. Seems at first they  said it was State policy! They lied and there will be hell to pay. There was a no gum chewing rule in school back when i was a student. If you did get caught you just had to spit it out and get humiliated in front of the class. Seems like we are turning to gestapo techniques these days for possesion of candy?   ???

What was she thinking? How dare she have a piece of candy. She should have been made to see a psychiatrist for six weeks.  Its a good thing she wasn't packing a set of nail clippers.

Isn't just great that government runs our schools. They do such a wonderful job of it. I mean they probably saved this girls life by stopping her from getting bad nutrition, and punishing her for it. If she wasn't stopped from harming herself with that jolly rancher she could have moved on to more dangerous stuff, like chocolate or gummy bears.

The person I have the biggest beef with, would be the principal of the school. If that person, be it male or female, doesn't have the kahuna's, to tell the school board to pack it where the sun doesn't shine, on an idiotic rule like that, they don't deserve to be in the teaching professiom. The parents of all the kids in that school, should get a petition to get the pricipal to resign, and the school board replaced. And they wonder why more kids are home schooled every year. It's because of dumba** rules like this. gypsyman

It's social conditioning.

If they can convince this child and her parents that having a piece of candy is a crime that deserves a punishment which can result in a denial of basic public services which were paid for with their tax dollars, imagine what they will be able to do to this child in the future without a word being said.

This child now has a promising life and career in front of her as a government employed pleasure worker.

 :P
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

They probably sent her home on a school bus that had no seat belts because they are exempt.

My wife and mother have been doin Vacation Bible School for about 50 years, and my mother 60 years. Today our Church was advised that a large day care center that always brings a bus load of kids to our Church every year for the week long event, will not be allowed to attend this year. Seems the State of Texas has put a stop to such goins on. WHY YOU ASK? Well, at Vacation Bible School, KIDS PRAY AND EAT UNHEALTHY THINGS LIKE COOKIES!
All you Governor Rick Perry lovers still wanna vote for him, and those other jackasses now occupying Austin Texas? Coming to a Church near you. ;)

This stuff is getting crazy. Our good God Fearing friends have a son who is maybe a little over eager to share Jesus with his friends. He's a good enthusiastic kid. A couple years ago he got the idea that when it was his turn to bring cookies to school, he'd add a little slip of paper inside the saran wrap for each cookie that said Jesus Loves you. His teacher confiscated the cookies and hauled him to the principal - he was 6 I think. They made him unwrap each cookie and take out the paper then told him never to do that again - all without calling his folks. He was pretty confused and scared. His mama wasn't at all happy and had a sit-down with the principal. She got in contact with a legal foundation that fights for freedom of speech. That outfit contacted the school and got things straight but there was never an apology from the teacher or principal but they had to allow him to bring his cookies and messages again 3 weeks later.

Our friends have moved to another town and this winter the kid did something similar there. Caused a big rumpus; there were nasty letters to the small town newspaper, hate calls to their home, threats, nasty call-ins on the local radio. Mama contacted the foundation again and sat down with the school board and some other parents. Once the issue of Freedom of Speech was laid out clearly by the foundation there was a civil discussion among the assembled group and the boy is once again able to exercise his rights. Can't recall the foundation but it does good work. Now I have to admit the boy might be a bit zealous but its all his doing, his parents don't push him to do this stuff at all. It seems this foundation is pretty good at reminding folks of all stripes how precious our Freedom of Speech is and what it really means. Wish I could remember its name - is it Rutherford Foundation maybe?

Don't know if they could step in on a candy issue but this gestapo / thought control stuff by the "progressives" is way out of control.

Geez, have people forgotten how to make people like that school principal color their shorts??  I fully agree that enough is enough but none of the idiots in charge of overseeing the education of children today seem to get that picture.  In my day it would have started with tough telephone calls and if that didn't work to change their minds, then bricks, bats, flattened tires, sugar or moth balls in the gas tank and even better, nighttime visits.

FWiedner:  gotta agree with you.

Dee:  The church that offers that vacation bible school should banish any adults complying with that policy from that day care center; maybe when people get tossed out of church (sort of like the scene of Adam and Eve being told to leave the Garden of Eden) they will get the idea.

What the hay ever happened to the old Vigilance Committees?

It's not the parents. It's the State of Texas. They will revoke their day care license if they don't comply with regulations.

when I was in 7th Grade I was sent home because I had a hole in my blue jeans (worn out at the knee). My dad was a blue collar single parent after my mom left him , he worked hard, man he worked hard to raise 3 kids all by himself, there were times when we just couldn't afford new school clothes. Apparently the school board passed some law no holes in jeans and no cut off arms on sweatshirts.

When my dad came home that night and my oldest sister told him I had been sent home and was home all day by myself unsupervised well the stuff hit the fan , The next morning he loaded me up in the car drove to the school and brought me into the principals office. I sat in the waiting area while my dad went behind closed doors. I could hear him (actually everybody could hear him) as he told that principal if my son or any of my children were ever sent home again without him receiving a phone call from the school he would come directly to the school and pound the living  sh!@ out of him (the principal). then he asked the principal in a very loud stern but calm tone  - Did I make myself clear enough?? and I heard the principal say yes sir.

When the  door opened my dad was perfectly calm and told me to go to class. We never talked about the incident again in our house and I was never sent home for having holes in my blue jeans just because my dad couldn't afford to buy us school clothes every year.

I think if I had been given detention over a piece of candy , the same type of conversation would have occurred.
a Lot of folks that sit on school board are just plain idiots , and they join school boards because they have a personal agenda they want to push.

Oh , they need to lock this little zealot up ..How dare he tell me God love me. what will we become as a society if we spread a good word informing someone who may feel alone that... hey man .. it'll get better... hang in there... God Love's you. Such radical talk. and then to wrap that subversive text in all things a home baked cookie that someone took their time thoughtfulness  in preparing for others. Please stop!!!! we cannot have any of that goodwill in the world. What is this wold coming to when a little boy is so out of control and wants to spread the word of God and love.. I for one am now scarred for life..

I was told this past year I can no longer say Merry Christmas to my fellow co-workers .. I now must say Happy Holidays.
I told them to take their political correctness and shove it , and if they have a problem with that fire me. and yes I continued to say Merry Christmas to all.

By the way  to all who read this post ... God loves you....
