Barrel program
« on: May 11, 2010, 09:44:31 AM »
Has anyone of late used the H&R Barrel Accessory program? Any suggestions on making the deal go smoothly? Thinking of sending one of my frames for another barrel... Thanks. Rick

See the Ilion Satisfaction Poll in the FAQs, most, if not all recent accessory barrel fittings are reported there.

Something to consider--
I purchased a 17 HMR and then sent the receiver back to Ilion to get a 22 mag barrel--great service BUT
By the time you pay freight both ways ~ $35, get a new scope to mount on it ~$60-150, pay the barrel and fitting $75 etc
I should have just bought a new a new rifle in 22 mag and have 2 complete rifles at my beckon call

The cost of Sportster accessory barrels has always been high in comparison to just buying a complete Sportster, that's nothing new, I've posted  it many, many times, a centerfire rifle accessory barrel will cost $140 plus tax and the cost of sending the frame to them, about $160 total, ordering 2 barrels cuts that cost some since the return shipping is the same for 2 barrels. A new SB1 357 mag will cost $250+. Most members opt for a second hand barrel which is the most economical way to go, but there are no guarantees the barrel will fit without modification and those not comfortable with fitting a barrel usually just resell it taking a loss on the shipping costs.
