Ha ha! I saw this today at lunch and forwarded it to some friends. Good solution. Didn't the US Marines make their name cleaning up the pirates of Tripoli? Bout time the maritime nations got together and solved Somali like the Russians do. Wouldn't take long. Quit paying ransoms too.

They probably didn't read them their Miranda rights when they questioned them, either.  I saw a thing about the weapons and training of Russian counter-terrorism forces on the military channel a few weeks ago.  Those troops are absolutely mission-oriented, and mercy isn't part of their makeup.

Yeah, all those tankers and container ships really haul in the fish. 

How much you wanna bet that the US govt. now puts pressure on Russia to quit being a bully and leave these poor people alone.

Russians can be hard of hearing, and this would be one of those times.  No one tells the Russians how to handle this sort of business. 

Ever wonder why Russian Diplomats are not messed with in the Middle East?  Back in the late 80s a Russian Diplomat was killed.  A few days later a bunch of men associated with that murder was found.  All had had certain parts removed from their bodies, and left displayed in the streets.  According to a letter on the bodies the parts had been fed to hogs.   

The only Islamist that messes with Russia is the ones living under Russian rule.

The way I see it the Russians were telling the truth.  They put the pirates on their boat without navigational equipment and set it adrift.  "It seems they all died".  Yup.  No more piracy for these guys.  Lots of posters on the web these days are talking about how to handle pirates have been advocating such draconian methods as keelhauling, yardarm hanging, etc.  In the end, this is no different.  I would think that pirates in that area would now consider very carefully before trying to capture a Russian ship or its crew. At least the Russians have made their point about how far they'll go to protect their own. We get a certain benefit from all of this as well.  These pirates captured by the Russians won't be bothering our US ships and crews, either. Sucks to be them.

Seems like a good solution to me.  No court costs, no costs to feed and house these pirate criminals, and no mess to clean up.  These Somali thugs choose their profession (and it ain't fishing) so they should be prepared to pay the consequences.   I say bravo to the Russian Navy.  Now if only our politicians would grow some cojones and allow our Navy to do the same.
