Stainless Steel Encore rust spot stains

I have a .50 caliber Encore in Stainless Steel. Went deer hunting in the mountains for a week. It got foggy and damp a little drizzle, that kind of thing. I would wipe the gun down on the outside every night. I did not, however, take it completely apart and wipe everything down. When I got home and took it apart, I had a lot of little surface rust spots on the Stainless Steel on both the base under the chamber frame area and the framearea above the trigger assembley area. I brass brushed the rust off with Blue Wonder. However, there are dark greyish "stains" left behind on my "stainless steel" were the rust spots used to be. How do I get the stains off. I don't want to steel wool it to the point where I have a shiny spot. Any help would be appreciated.

you're not alone. had my gun one week and it did the same thing.  depressing!!  :cry:  I paid the extra money for the "stainless" thinking that was a thing of the past.  wish now i would have bought the blued barrel (think it's better looking anyway). If anyone knows how to prevent the rust w/o every deer in the tri-state area smelling me, please let me know. THANKS

I don't understand it either.    Pretty much decided to get rid of the blackpowder and go to a 300 Win Mag to compliment my collection of barrels in trade.    Hate to pass off my worries to someone else but at least now I know it's not just my barrel that did that.     Sorry I don't have an answer for you though.

Hey guys,
I'll admit I don't have an answer off the top of my head, but I'd be trying light oil or kerosene and 000 or 0000 steel wool on those spots.  Then I would go to the Militec-1 Site and order up some samples of the oil and grease and try rubbing and burnishing it in well.  That should end the rust problems.

Try some Flitz metal polish. It worked well for me on a stainless Ruger.
