The old Remington 700 recoil pad issues
« on: May 13, 2010, 05:44:16 AM »
Ok guys, handling this for my non computer savy father. He's got a Rem 700 .300 Win Mag., the CDL kind. We all know about the recoil pad issues on the early ones. Anyway, called Remington, etc. They sent one, but apparently they sent one for the ADL/BDL, as it is too small. We made sure they knew that it was for the CDL.

Do I try giving limbsaver a call this time, or what is the best play? I have tried and tried and tried to just flat out buy one online, but all I see are the ones for the ADL/BDL.  Does anyone know of a website or a link, etc. where I can just buy one? Anyone have experience with this? Its the screw-on kind of pad, by the way. Thanks in advance for any help; we're having a time trying to get this fixed, and I dont want him to have to take it to a gun smith if he doesn't have to.

Thanks again,
Josh

I'd call Remington and explain what happened.  I'd ask for the R3 pad.

When talking about old recoil pad issues, what problems? I have had 700s for 20 years and never had any problems until Limbsaver started making the R3 pad. They all get sticky. Limbsaver replaced some of my R3 pads and they did it again! That is too bad cause they did a good job on recoil. I have switched to the Supercell pads.

I've never had a problem with the R3.  I did with the Remington marked Limbsaver pad before the R3.

FYI i've heard that armor-all will take the "stickyness" out of those pads

ALL of mine where R3 add ons and all are junk! Armor All would not help, it is like they melted, stuck to my carpet in the safe. LS said it was a curing issue they had. Must have been pretty bad for Remington to make the SuperCell, which does not work as well as they claim.

I love and prefer the Super Cell.

The sticky pads can be cleaned with mineral spirits and sprayed with clear spray.  Remington replaces them for free.
