Need info on magazines for Merkel SR1 in 30-06
« on: May 13, 2010, 06:38:32 AM »
Hi everybody,

Among other things, I ordered a Merkel SR1 in 30-06 and it should be here tomorrow...

I am told the Merkel comes with a 2-round detachable magazine but that there is an optional 5-round one available (at least in Germany anyway).

I am also told that it shares magazines with the KR1

Now my question is:

Would any of you have any light to shed on this?

I realize the Merkel SR1 is not that common but, surely, somebody must know and be willing to share that knowledge.

I did get some other information about the SR1 that may not be common knowledge and could prove useful to SR1 owners wishing to reload unique loads that depart from factory offerings.  Anyone with interest in that info, let me know.

Thanks

OK, The Merkel came in and it looks good, but it does have that 2-round mag. Merkel confirms that there is a 5-rounder available for it (in Germany) but no info on price or availability.

I did notice the mag is stamped with "HK" and the graphic logo, and then, below that,  "Cal. 30-06" and below that "Cal. 9.3X62".  Someone told me that this Merkel and the HK SL 2000 share the same action so it is conceivable (to me, at least) they might share the mags too.  I found Cabela's had a listing for HK SL 2000 5-rounds mags but it was marked as discontinued.  Of course, I don't even know if it would have worked anyway.  In fact, I also came across a mention about a 10-rounder...

Hey, any ideas or leads y'all might want to throw my way will be appreciated.

BTW, I checked out several European hunting forums (Spain, France, and Germany - the Merkels are more popular there) and I found references to the 5-rounder in some of them, so it does exist. Getting it may be another story.

Ok, Thanks
