go to sears or any place that sells a lot of tools and get a thread pitch gauge.that will tell yu the threads per inch or tpi.then go to a hardware store and get a nut the same size if yu can, screw it on and then cut off the screw with a jewlers saw or slowly grind off the excess, being sure to keep the screw cool to not lose any temper it may have.i like then to hit the end of the screw with a belt sander and round off the screw end, then screw off the nut and it should be ready to go.a actual die is usally too thick for these jobs.
