I recently got an xp100  14.5 barrel, scoped with bipod. Whats the carry method for a walking hunter?

280 - Welcome Aboard.  I think some of the fellas use a cross-draw off the shoulder rig or chest rig for those long barrelled handguns but I will hold on that until some of those who actually carry them in the field come back to respond.

Add a sling.
For me any holster has way too long of draw to get the darn thing out

I use a bi pod with a sling on my xp100.  The bi pod make it easy to set it down on the ground when glassing etc. The sling is nice when hiking around.

If hunting a spot where a shot walking in is a high probabilty then its in the hand cradled in one hand similiar to a rifle.  If a long walk in or say predator hunting with planned sites and setup time then carried in my pack unloaded.  Hate the holsters.  not a big fan of slings

I use a sling and a bipod for the reasons stated above. I hunt ground hogs and deer with long barreled hand guns. It is a LOONNGG draw from any holster when you are carrying a 14-15" barreled handgun. They are also quite heavy when scoped! I also use a walking stick/bipod in case the grass is to high for prone shooting.

I mainly hunt from a treestand with ny 15" contender so I use a crossdraw bandalier holster,I dont like the  holsters you wear like suspenders because it needs adjusting whenever you change outer garmets. The bandalier is also good for walking from A to B also.

In my pack, slinged, or just carry it.

I have 3 guns like that. A Rem XP-100 .221 Fireball, and 2 Savages- A .22-250 Stryker and a 7mm-08 Stryker. The .221 is light and is not a "big game" gun, though I may shoot a deer with it next year off my deck if they keep eating the wife's shrubs! It has a bipod and carry case.  The SAvages are bigger and heavier. Both have bipods and  sling swivels which I use in the field. I hunt mostly out of ground blinds, almost fell out of a tree yrs. ago never been up since! I use 2 tall supports because I'm usually in a "Pop-up" style blind on flat ground.  Front is an adjustable monopod w/ V top support. Back is a $5.00 polymer cane-thing made by MTM? I use it to walk too.  LAst buck I killed with .22-250(Rem 55gr. Power-lokt HPs) was in a greenfield @ about 110 yds. DRT. That same set-up I have used to shoot.5 MOA groups w/ both the 22-250 & 7mm-08.

For big game they're mostly in my pack.

Years ago I had an early XP100 in .221Fireball - I added detachable swivels to bottom of grip and the back end of the fiberglass stock (behind bolt, inline with bore). Carried over shoulder OR around neck - was very quick & easy to bring gun up & on target.
