Recoil pads
« on: May 13, 2010, 05:59:47 PM »
Just got my youth synthetic stock in for a .500 s&w shorty carbine project.  Problem is its a little too short.  Any recommendations for a grind to fit recoil pad between 1 3/4" and 2" thick?  I dont really want any kind of slip on pad

Had a short stock on our 22 Hornet, I opted for the slip-on Small Limbsaver, so it retained the original pad and added 1" to LOP. I do not know if there are 2" recoil pads. Good question and good luck.

I don't have my rifle nearby to measure, but last year I restocked an old .30-06 bolt and had my smith put a grind-to-fit on it.  He recommended the Sims Labs, Limbsaver pad.  It's way thicker than 1 inch and I really like it.

The Limbsaver grind to fits may seem thicker, but they're actually just softer, I just measured a couple small grind to fit which fit H&R stocks and a Decelarator, they're all 1.08" thick. I don't have any mediums or large, they might be thicker tho, but whether they can be cut down to fit a youth stock I don't know. A few of the Brownell's spacers with the grind to fit pad of your choice would give you the 2" additional length. I second the recommendation of the slip-on over the factory youth pad, that combination works for me on the 405 Win which has a youth Topper Deluxe Classic stock on it.

Perhaps a better route would be to trade the youth stock for an adult in the H&R WTT forum, then go from there if it's too short, Limbsaver makes a prefitted pad for the synthetic adult monte carlo stocks, I have a couple of them, they work well on heavy kickers.

Tim:
Do you know the number of the pre-fit pad off the top of your head or do I need to go to the stickys?
Also, will it fit the synthetic partner pump turkey camo stock?
