Well if Westboro Church was there they were hidden in the MASSIVE SUPPORT.  There were over 300 members of the Patriot Guard who SURROUNDED the church with Harley's decked out with American Flags.  Not only did they follow the procession they were ready to rev their engines at a moment's notice if anyone outside started shouting.  There were thousands of patriotic supporters lining the streets between the church and the cemetery.  They filled all of the shopping centers parking lots.  They could only protest on public land and he was buried very close to our college campus which is private.  The largest chunk of public land on our course was the square in Jacksonville.  Anniston, Oxford, Weaver, Jacksonville, and Alexandria fire trucks encircled the square and a couple of hundred people filled in the gaps between the trucks which were holding a HUGE American flag risen with two trucks buckets.

Those folks didn't have ONE FOOT OF SPACE to protest in!!!  Our community really banded together and came out by the thousands to support this family.  There were elderly men and women sitting in lawn chairs waving flags.  A whole drove of teenagers wearing white tshirts with the words "support our troops" written on them.  There were families sitting on the back of pick-up trucks with flags EVERYWHERE!  I even noticed a war vet right outside the church with a flag attached to his wheel chair.  EVERY business in Jacksonville had nice remembrance of Capt. Comfort either painted on their windows or on their marquee signs.  Our local Bar and Grill Heroes even donated food for EVERYONE who attended the funeral AND the Supports who lined the streets.   They are a new business in J-ville but they just solitified their place here for a LONG time  cuz we won't soon forget their generosity to the family, friends, and supporters of a true American Hero!  It was a very touching site to say the least.

  Dee;
  I was one saved a bit later in life (1978), but now as I look back I wonder where the fire-breathing preachers were during the Johnson admin, which insisted the church not preach about politics. They should never have stood for such govt interference !
   The very heart and soul of the revolution and the spirit of 1776, was fired up and found a home in the colonial pulpits.

   Heather;
  My nephew just retired from the Army last month after having had experience in the Navy with the Gulf war between Iraq & Iran, the first Gulf war (1991) and several deployments to  the sandbox since. He has joined the Patriot Guard, and may well have been there.

Heather,

I am so glad for the turnout and the way things went.  What a blessing for the family in such a time to see they were supported and loved.  And what a blessing no knuckleheads could make themselves known.  America still lives in the small towns and communities.  I just wish there were more of them.

God Bless,

Ben
