LYMAN 12GA SABOT SLUG MOLD
« on: May 15, 2010, 04:35:05 AM »
I have a bunch of pure lead and was thinking it may go to good use casting slugs for my 12 gauge.  Does anyone have any advice and or experience with this mold?

I've cast a whole lot of them... you need to keep your lead hot... that is a lot of lead to pour... I use a ladle with a large pot with about 60 lbs..runs good once you get up to temp... I used pure lead, but have heard of improved accuracy from a guy who uses straight wheel weights... I cast up a few to test... they look great, but haven't shot them yet for testing... by the way... on my pure lead ones I also fill the base with hotmelt and knurl the edge of the slug for improved accuracy... You can find a lot of info on Shotgun World site under Slug Shooters
