USFA Plinker Question
« on: May 15, 2010, 09:45:42 AM »
I was surfing the web last night and came across an ad for a USFA Plinker with a 12/22 cylinder and a 6/22 mag cylinder, NIB. I can't tell from the USFA site if thats a factory option, but I thought the Plinker was not a 12/22. Am I wrong? I was thinking about a 12/22, but a convertible 12/22 would be sweet!

TN,

I have a 12/22 and really like the gun, although is a bit heavy due to the smaller bore, and more metal mass.......That said, I'd think the plinker would be a bit heavier, due to 6 less holes in the cylinder......

I'm curious why you 'd want a 5 shot,(plinker) when you can have an eleven shot with the 12/22 ??

Tom,

The thing that got me was the ad said it was a 12/22 with an additional 6/22mag cylinder, and they called it a plinker. I've been trying to find it again to post here. 12/22 is great, 12/22 convertible would be amazing ... to me.  ;D

TN,
I guess i missed the word MAG when I read and responded to your post............It all makes sense to me now. Although, I don't know id the Mag cylinder is a factory option, but it could easily be made from 22LR cylinder.

How would they get a 12 shot cylinder and a 6 shot cylinder to both index correctly in the same gun? Did I miss-read something or miss understand something?

Okay, I looked it up.
Plinker is a 6 rnd that comes standard with a mag. cylinder.
12/22 is a long rifle only.
Two different guns.

Yeah, Saddlebum,

I was wondering about that too, but just didn't ask.....................The thing I got stuck was " why would anybody want a 12 shot that converts to a 6 shot?".............but I missed the "Mag" thing...

I have to say if you want a full sized .22, buy the 'Bounty Hunter'.  I have the six shot model and they also make a 10 shot.  I love it!  Very accurate and fun to shoot.  I'd buy that and stick the other $600 in my pocket!  44 Man

I have a 12-22. The blueing is wonderful, and it shoots like a dream. Paid $725 otd nib, worth every penny to me, the quality is just like their centerfires. Have a blessed Christmas.
