?? about Maxi bullets
« on: May 15, 2010, 12:27:26 PM »
Hello everyone,
I just found a box of .358" 170gr Speer UCSP bullets.  Is it advisable to use them in a .357 Maxi or do they need more velocity for expansion?  Are these the same as their Gold Dot Flat Point bullets?  BTW, they would be used in a rifle barrel of at least 18".

Thanks, Dinny

Well sir, I'm no expert, but I would think the maxi would give plenty of velocity for expansion of just about any soft point bullet, at least at reasonable range.  Loaded "warm" you are not too far off .35 ballistics IMO.  I say shoot 'em. :D

CW likes that bullet in the Max.

Tim

I have had the best results with 1680 powder.

Personally I hunt with mine so I use bullets constructed correctly for humane performance on deer.

I like the 180 HP remington, 158 FP and 180 HP XTP bullets as well as the 180 FP and 170 Gold Dot from Speer. I tried the 180 SSP Hornady for a while and even shot a couple deer with it. But found it would come appart on bones and not give me complete penetration. So I stopped using it.

Of all those bullets the the 180 FP and 170 GD are my favorites.

Good luck,
 CW
