I go just South of there in Putnam co. The bear from the area last year may of found some love in the woods. This may play out the same, with the bear darted & carted off.

I know this an old thread but I wanted to relate something.......... back in 66 or 67 me and my buddy harvey put 2 coon dogs out at a really large corn field.  the field had a low place in the middle that had heavy brush and standing water, so the dogs headed down there and about a minute later they was back. they sat down close to us and refused to hunt the rest of the night.
these were big tough hounds that were normally scared of nothing.    so, there must have been some kind of large predators back then.
I don't remember the county, but it was just south of Olney.

Olney...da town with dem white Squirrels?

I saw a trail cam picture just two years ago (100% Reliable) that captured a large Cat. This would have been in the area of Dieterich, Newton, or Wheeler.

I suspect that this is what your dogs encountered back in 66-67. The Cats are out there but can range 250 sq miles which certainly places routes such as the IL\Mississippi or Ohio Rivers within that range.

yes, olney was the home of white squirrels.  back then it was a $50 fine if you ran over one by accident.    I'm in full agreement about large cats in many places in the east and midwest.
people in cat country will tell you that they've never seen one.
the cats are smart enough to figure out where people DON'T go and THEY go there.
