How do you get transmission fluid out of clothes?

Leaked over some clothes. Did laundry which I am generally banned from. Threw in some other clothes/blankets/etc to be more efficient. Needless to say, the entire load smells awful. Thinking of just throwing it all in the garbage, unless I get a better suggestion.,

That or just wash them again. Transmission fluid is high detergent in itself. The odor shouldn't be that hard to get out. If it doesn't though, you should still SHIFT BETTER when you wear them. ;D

You might try some gojo or D&L hand cleaner. Smear some on the cloth's.gypsyman

Try Simple Green. If that don't work drop'em with the rest of the clothes and act innocent when the "Boss" asks about em. Works for me. Or blame the kid.

If its 80-90 gear lube just throw them away. It will never come out. Auto tranny fluid should come out with good detergent soap. good luck. ED K

dang dee im gonna go wash everything i got in transmission fluid.. i could sure use help getting into 2nd gear in the morning...
 dawn should remove it ,if you use a strong dose in your laundry..then use  bounce or what ever product you use in the dryer..good luck.. slim

With the gear lube you can get it out pretty good with 2 or 3 soaks/scrubs of gasoline but how much risk are the cloaths worth?

This sounds like the best idea so far. Several posters suggested dish soap. Be careful using dish soap in a washing machine. You may end up with one heck of a suds flood.

Heather's idea sounds real good. When I used to roughneck we used to pour a few cans of Coca-Cola,(original), in the wash for our greasers,(work clothes). It worked pretty good on crude oil and diesel and grease.
Makes me wonder what it does to your stomach when you drink it!

As said before Simple Green should do the job on the stain.
But on the smell, we always use Odor Ban ( get it at SAM's CLUB ). This stuff is fantastic on sweaty, diesel, gas & oil smelling work clothes. Put a couple of table spoons direct into wash. A 1 gallon jug makes 32 gals for spray bottles. Also great for pet odors and even work for skunk sprayed pets.

I have  experienced what happens when you use hand dishwashing liquid in a dishwasher. Would expect a laudry washer to be even more entertaining.

Try lighter fluid on the spots then wash as said with Baking Soda.

Soda ash and Simple Green takes the grunge out of my rig clothes.
Oil base mud, crude, grease, diesel soot, dirty engine oil if it can be found on an oil rig I get it all over my clothes.
But my little bride makes sure I start the day lookin good.
