I'm not going to use them, other bullets work just fine for those of us with experiance.
I am going to load them for my son, he's 17 and only has 4 years experiance with Deer hunting, he's a good shooter, but last season he made a 300 yrd shot (edge of a wheat field) with a Nosler Ballistic tip, (Winchester factory ammo recomended for big game), and the bullet exploded with little penetration. The second shot too the neck did the same but did the job. He hunts with the ex's side grandpa, he's good enough to bring his grandson up too the family land, but he's not that much of a hunting nut.
The first shoulder shot should have done it, part of it is my fault, I didn't prep him for that kind of shot and I didn't provide a good enough bullet for that distance. The Barnes is supposed to penetrate and cause damage, 95% of the reviews say they do. And I got them to fly right out of his gun, alot better than the Partition, sooo,,
Spendy? Yes. Do they look wierd? Well, Yes they do. But you'll hafta wait till November for me to tell ya if they do the job or not.
By the way, they are still copper, and they do open into an X. The big deal is all about the Califorication Lead-Free zones, with these and other copper bullets, guy's can still hunt. It's wonderfull news that they work well, the anti's back-door assault on hunting with a lead ban has met a match.
