Latest find...rem 700 7mm-08- ADL?
« on: May 19, 2010, 04:18:41 AM »
A friend of mine found me a pretty good deal at an Academy Sports the other day, a Rem 700 ADL in 7mm-08.  However, it has the X-Mark pro trigger, the new Rem recoil pad, no iron sights, and the same syn stock as my other SPS.  All NIB for $349.  I had to get it.
I did get to the range with it after mounting a Simmons 44 mag scope.  I tried several handloads to get it on paper and did some barrel cleaning between sets.  However, it really seemed to like the Sierra accuracy load for their 140 gr SPT, it's 39.6 of Re15.  I had six shots in an horizontal line, less than an inch group.  Not bad to start....
More detailed work to come.
thanks,

They had the 700 sps's here at Academy for $288.  It made me sick that I did not have the money to go out and buy one.

Checking ballistic tables the other day...7mm08, 140 grn...as compared to .25-06, .270 win. and 30-06, 120 grn, 130 grn and 150 grn respectively,  from 200 yds on the 7mm08 has a greater remaining energy than the long cartridges.  It is a wonderful hunting round.

Is it a ADL (Blind magazine) or SPS (Hinged floor plate)?  $349 price is about average and as you can see cheaper other places.

I truly love the 7mm-08 Remington, I have one in Weatherby Mark V Sporter, and it is so smooth action and nice 24” barrel.  It wears a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40 scope, everything is  matte except the dark walnut stock.  Truly a beautiful rifle and great MOA accuracy.

That's just an amazing price. When I used to live in Houston, I remember that Academy used to sell all hunting merchandise real cheap right after the season was over.  Still, $288 for that gun is a price that I certainly couldn't refuse if I had known about it.
