Has any one had any experiance with the bolt lift kits offered in the Savage forums . I wonder if this is something I could have shipped to Canada and installed here .

There are only three things you can do to make a Savage bolt easier to lift.  Cut the fireing pin spring shorter or install a lighter spring.  Modify the cocking ramp and polish it.  Install a longer bolt handle.  Two of the three are drop in parts, any gunsmith can do the ramp.  Larry

The lift kits are easy to make. They're just a cut down 38spl or 357 mag case with I believe a 5/32 ball bearing epoxied into the primer pocket. You do need to shorten either the bolt assembly screw or the cocking sleeve to make up for the thickness of the rim on the case that you used.

In my experience the lift kits do help. Coupled with a longer bolt handle and having the action timed, there is a spectacular improvement.

There are mixed opinions on cutting the spring.

I ordered  a longer bolt handle which I will have installed . Tried to break the nut loose myself after taking the bolt out and decocking , but could not get enough force to break it loose .
Other than the heavy bolt lift , I like the rifle . They do shoot.

Put a hex key in the BAS (bolt assembly screw) and place the entire bolt on a carpet or rug. Then gently step on the bolt handle. It'll come loose without a problem.
