I don't know about the fluted barrel.  Check H&R CS for availability.  Links are in the FAQs.  I think a Bushnell Banner 3-9X50 would be in the ball park.  A great scope for the price.  It's gonna come on a SB2 frame and you can put on any rifle and most shotgun barrels, and the Huntsman ML if you can find one.  I've got a new blue synthetic, 1~9 twist that's a tack driver beyond 300 yards shooting 55 gr. bullets.  I really don't see a need for the fluting.  I never shoot fast enough to worry about barrel heating, it's not an AR.  I don't believe it takes enough weight off to make a difference.  I like the new style basic synthetic checkered stock

What do you consider extremely accurate? There are lots of guys on here who shoot sub-moa out of the box with the 223, but I wouldn't expect 200 yards sub-moa.

Daman, I don't understand.  If a rifle shoots sub MOA at 100, it should be within 2 inches at 200 and 3 inches at 300 etc....wind and other factors notwithstanding.  Please, everyone...correct me if I'm wrong on this.

For a good  low priced scope, you may check CameralandNY for the Pentax they have on sale. Some as low as $49.

First of all, look at the application to determine the scope you want.  I use a 3X12 scope with Tactical Turrents, on my .223 Ultra.  These turrents are calibrated to the bullet weight, speed, and caliber, I am shooting (55gr) and can be dialed from 100 yards to 500 yards.  I don't shoot for measured groups, my only concern is that I break a 4" clay target every shot, no matter the yardage.

The advantage to a fluted barrel is that they cool faster, but you have to remember these guns are not designed for target shooting.  They are hunting rifles, designed to place that first shot where it needs to go.  Maybe a second or third if you don't do your part.  But after that put it down for a while, accuracy has gone right out the window, as the barrel has heated up and will start stringing the shots.

As to modifications, all I have done has been to put an O-ring under the forearm, mounted a good scope, and painted it white.  I use it for preditor calling in the winter in snow.

As for getting extra barrels, Yes you can, but I no longer think it is a good idea.  When I first got my first Handi Rifle in 30-06 I sent it back and got a .223 and 20ga barrel.  Then I found that every time I changed the barrel the point of impact changed, and I had to resight the scope.  Now if I had been shooting at 100 yards or less that would have not been a problem, and resighting would not have been required.  But I never know how far the shot will be when it presents itself.  Therefore I no longer change barrels, except on my shotguns.  As cheap as these guns are I just buy the whole gun for the caliber I want.  That way once I get it set up nothing changes.

I got a .243 for my son when he was 10.  His mother sent the reciever back and got a 45-70 barrel, and the .50 cal barrel for him.  Today the 45-70 barrel has been on the gun for the last 6 years, that is the only barrel he wants to shoot with the gun.  He thinks of that gun as a 45-70 and if he wants to shoot a differant caliber he gets a differant gun.

The main reason I wanted to be able to switch out barrels is because I would like to have a rifled shotgun (rifles being illegal for deer here) and I want the .223 so I wanted to save a couple bucks but they aren't too horrible price wise. Here's another question I already have a NEF 20ga I got a few years ago it is a youth model can I throw a 12ga barrel on that or will I have to get a new stock and forend for the bigger barrel? If I can't get a 12ga barrel on there what about a rifled 20ga would really like it to not be a youth size for I am no longer a youth sized person.

Thanx a bunch guys I have been asking for a lot.

Yes, the 12 will fit and shoot on your frame,,and Yes you can get the 20 rifled slug barrel,,called the Ultra Slug Hunter/USH barrel fot it also,,the forearm will fit the 12,, but the USH barrel has it's own special forearm.
The "youth" aspect of these guns is just a shorter butt stock, take the butt pad off, reach in with a deep well 9/16 socket and un-screw the bolt,,bolt on an adult size but stock and your "youth" model is now full size.

Go look at the NEF Classifieds of this forum and you can find stocks and barrels for sale,  ;D

Your 20 is an SB1 frame and will NOT accept the pressure of the 223

Thanx a lot I heard shotguns can go on rifle frames but not the other way around you think I could just get a slip on butt pad to make it a bit longer for the 12ga barel that is?

True if you can stand up to it. Long day didn't quite put 2&2 together thanks for the correction. You are definitely not wrong, my brain had a moment.

The thing about that,,the radius of the rifle (SB2) frame is a bit bigger than the shotgun barrel, AND, the firing pin is smaller on the rifle. But guy's do, do it. It functions, looks different/funny, could pierce primers,,,

cool cause I really like how my stock looks already I am only 15 I dont have a lot of money so I would like to save as much money as I can and but I think I can get a rifled 12ga barrel before next gun season they shouldn't be a whole lot more than $100-$150 right? I am going to use this for early deer season and then once we start driving and they're jumpier I will migrate to my 870 12ga so I can get faster backup shots and I can accuratly hit something with that at 50 yards or so.

I want to know your guys opinions would you rather have a less than accurate 870 with 3 shots or accurate out to farther distance with a single shot pardner?

I put one of the BSA Sweet 223 6-18x40 on mine.  I'm still getting the rifle all lined out but I can't complain about the scope and SWFA has them on sale for $69.95 so you can't beat the price.  Here is a link to the scope on their site.

[/i]I slipped on a limbsaver pad over my youth buttstock on my 12 g turkey gun.   It added 1" to the length but fit well, and gave a lot more cushion for touching off the big turkey loads.

I have found that where I needed multiple quick followup shots, and that was because I was on the ground tracking a wounded wild boar that decided to charge.   I was prepared for that with my Winchester 3030.   But all the other times single shots were just fine.    You may want to ask some of your shotgun specific questions down on the H&R shotgun forum.    A lot of collective wisdom and experience there as well.

I like single shot guns. I have even converted most of my bolt action varmint rifles to single shots. I believe in one (1) well placed shot. How ever I do not hunt dangerous game. If I did, I would want some thing for back up. Another shot or two, a side arm, a hunting buddy, some thing. I do not consider deer dangerous game. Therefore give me 1 well placed shot, be it at 25 yards or 300 yards. I want to know right where I am going to hit with it and do it once.

Oh, Come On LaOtto222.  Come up here to North Pole and I will take you out for Grizzly with our handi's.  I carry a Handi 30-06, and hunt Black Bear and Grizzly with it.  Still would like to take a Grizz with my .17HMR.  Know people that have taken them with .22LR.   Wonder why GB thinks I'm destined to be Bear Poo.

Born-To-Hunt:  Did not realize you were a Newby, just getting started out on a life time of hunting.  Therefore I will change my view and answer to you.  Get the .223, but don't skrimp on the scope.  Don't mean you have to spend a fortune on scopes, but get a quality scope, one that will take rough handling and survive.  Bushnell makes several for starters.  Just make sure it has a good warrenty.  Now as for getting a .308 barrel later then changing barrels.  That's an economical way to do it.  Just remember to recheck your point of impact after each barrel change.  Now as for the shotgun barrels, the stock on the Handi Rifle is no condusive to using shotgun barrels, the comb is set for using scopes and you can not get your face down low enough to sight down a shotgun barrel.  Handi Rifles that use Iron sites, such as the .45-70 are conducive to using shot gun barrels since they have the lower stock comb.

yeah I havn't been hunting as long as most of you thats a good reason I dont know much about this stuff if I have to I will spend a little more than $100 on a scope thats why I wanted a single shot instead of a bolt action to have more money for a scope and I do want a small not very powerful scope on the shotgun but I will put that on the shotgun section.
