« on: May 21, 2010, 12:00:09 AM »
Yup...........Just got done listening to a two hour talk on predtion and the effects on fawns and moose calfs.  So now they want to think about bring the spring season back to Manie.  I would love to hear from anyone who has a spring and fall season and what the effects have been on the total population.  I just think you are going to wack the heck out of your resource........Any thoughts from anyone....

I guess it depends on what you want more of, Bear or Deer and Moose. Bear are varmint to some. There is a lot of places that have both a spring and a fall season for bear and it works out just fine.  Local hunters will be taking more unless there is still only a one bear a year limit. If that is the case, the affect will not be a factor. If there is a spring bear and a fall bear allowed per hunter, unless a lot of people come from out of state to hunt both seasons will there be an impact on the population.

It also come's to what animal people like more to hunt and want more of. I don't see it as a negative, it is an opportunity for people to make more money on a resource that Maine has a lot of.  Now get them to work on Moose permits for us out of Stater's...lol

Bear population in Maine has exploded over the last 6-8 years. There would still probably have to be a one bear per year limit. It would be another opportunity for hunters. Plus the hides and meat are better on spring bears than the traditional early fall hunts.

I'm heading to New Brunswick on Sunday for a spring bear hunt with my bow.

bhod1,  I hope you nail a nice one, where are you from here in Maine.....

Redhawk1.I never thought only one bear a year, that might work.  my fear was seeing people shooing the tar out of them spring and fall.  I don't think even with our numbers be as they are that you wold beable to do tht for to many years asdn still have good bear hunting...
