WENCH
« on: May 21, 2010, 07:06:22 AM »
I have a 400 Honda Rancher that has an auxilary plug in port.
My question is can I plug in a wench into this port or will this damage the rancher?

LOL. A wench is different from a winch. I'm guessing you want a winch. A wench is a prostitute. You'd prolly have to get her real drunk before trying to tie her to your ATV. I'm guessin' this is also illegal...and will likely damage the rancher, whoever he is, in more ways than one. ;D ;D

I think it's the "wench" that has the aux port, NOT the "rancher"!  lol

For sure the winch will certainly be cheaper. ;D

In answer to the assumed question; No, the aux wiring and plug are not of heavy enough guage to flow enough power to work even the smallest of winches.  Such winches must be wired directly to the barrery, as per winch manufacturers instruction, for a power feed.

Never could spell yet alone type.
It was indeed winch.
Thanks for the real/actual winch information.

No, the aux 12v plug will not handle the amps the winch needs. A winch draws some heavy amps even when not under a load. The winch needs to be wired to the battery and I recomend wiring the control wiring so the winch is inoperative with the ignition switch in the off position. Some folks even wire an extra switch between the connection for control voltage and the control switch so "little fingers" don't bend things.

Thats what I did to mine and it quit draining the battery.
