12 Gauge Pardner

My 12 Gauge Pardner was given to me as a present after the owner caught me admiring it one day. Its a sweet little gun, nice to carry but I figured it wouldn't be so nice on the shoulder so I got a grind to fit recoil pad and its just fine. Definitely kicks more than my Auto but its not too bad. So fast forward to Monday and i ordered a new Pardner in 20. I can hardly wait untill the 28th to get it out of jail.

Hey JRW209, Thats a dandy lookin old H&R! I like that. Got my son a newer version of this gun, guess you could say its same thing only different. I like the older models with the forend stock like your's and the color case receiver. Nice old gun you have. scout4<><

I love scnable forends and I especially like the shell holder. Did you make that or order it from some where? If you like the 12 your gunna love the 20.

Nice pardner and I too love the shell holder. What barrel length is it? looks longer than the norm, 32' FULL perhaps?

  It seems like everyone has a 12 or a 20. Maybe we can get spikehorn to tell us about his 28 gauge. Have you hunted with it at all since you picked it up? I killed a squirrel or two with it when i had it.

Thanks guys. It's a 28" fixed mod. smooth barrel. I made the shell holder. The only thing i've hunted with it so far is clays.

I have one just like it!  I have killed more game with it than any of my fancy autos, pumps, rifles, not because it's a better gun, just because it's always with me!  A neighbor of mine found it in his attic when he moved in, his wife didn't want a gun in the house, so he gave it to me...DT

BTW mine likes 3" 000 buckshot for deer to 35 40 yards, dead right there...#5 23/4" has downed several turkeys out to 35 yards...i keep a mix of those in my shell holder and a box of 6 shot in the truck for anything else...good luck with it...DT

 Congrats. Thats a nice gift. I have a 20 buck Winchester branded LimbSaver recoil pad on mine from Walmart and it makes all the difference. If you ever want to feel a few good bruises followed by some deep shoulder pain that makes you worry if you will be spending the evening in the emergency room though,take the pad off,ignore the pain and fire a few boxes of 3" 00 buck through it. (I speak from experience) Ive been thinking about ordering the 410/45LC barrel for mine. I have a tracker II slug barrel for mine as well. Does anyone have any information on a way to mount a scope on it?

I bought a 12ga Tracker II barrel from MSPRet It appears to drilled & tapped and epoxied, He told me when I bought it that it was permanently attached.  Other people have gotten steel bases from Warne and had them silver soldered.  I think there is some stuff about this in the FAQs

There is not much meat to work with when drilling and tapping a 12 gauge barrel, that is why most gunsmiths prefer not to do it. When mie used to do it he advised me that the scope base was meant to remain on the 12 gauge barrel once it was attcahed and not to remove and replace it like other rifle barrels or 20 gauge barrels where there is more barrel thickness to work with....<><....:)

I was thinking that I could throw a piece of steel on the lathe and bore it out to the same diameter as the barrel,then cut a section out on the bandsaw, mill the top flat and drill holes to mount a rail too it. I would then silver solder that on to it and would have plenty of metal to screw into.

Brownells sells 10" long base stock.  I think it has a flat base, so you would have to radius the bottom.

Or just silver solder a Warne steel pitcatinny base(<$40) to the barrel as is, it's made to fit the standard contour H&R chambers, I'd add one 8-40 screw as a recoil lug, although it probably wouldn't need it.  ;)
