Osiyo from Branson
« on: May 21, 2010, 04:08:10 PM »
Osiyo ( Hello ) I'm  Cherokee and a disabled Vietnam Vet. My best hunting companion has always been my son and I now find him teaching me new tricks. I live just outside of Branson, Missouri and hunt Whitetails, Turkeys, Rabbits and Squirrels. However, back in 01, I won a contest with Dave Watson and got to hunt Pronghorn for my first and only time. A Thompson Center Encore .270 was part of the package and is my favorite rifle to this day. My son is a Certified Executive Bodyguard and also operates a Security Firm. My daughter is career Navy and in her 13th year. Her husband's been in 18 years. I've been married to my wife for 37 years and counting. My son and I love anything that gets us outdoors. We hunt archery ( me with a Horton Legend XL175 crossbow), with rifles, handguns, muzzleloaders ( Optima 209, Elite Compact, and Optima Pro) and shotguns for turkies. We love to talk hunting and fishing and love to share stories, tips and advice.

Here is the story that my grandma Warren told me that my great-grandmother Mary Edney(Nipper) Warren told her.

When my grandpa Warren was a young man, a group of Cherokee Indians from North Carolina came through Ohatchee, Alabama on their way to Florida for a powwow. They stop at my great-grandmother's and ask if they could have some water from the well. She told them that they could and when they saw my grandpa they wanted to buy him because he looked just like their dead son. When my great-grandmother told them NO they were not going to buy her son they became very angry. After this encounter my great-grandmother would not let my grandpa out of her site until she knew for sure that they had left.  She was so afraid that they would come back and get him.  A few weeks later the Cherokee Indians came back through and again stop at great-grandmother's for water at the well. The leader of the group (who happen to be the chief of the tribe) told her that he wanted to apology for upsetting her and getting so angry with her because she wouldn't sale her son to them. He told her that he hoped that they would be welcome to come back through on their next trip. She told them sure. After their talked they went on their way.

Thank you for the warm welcome folks and for sharing your story Mrs. Graybeard. I've posted a story I wrote in the Insperational Forum but will post a traditional story in the Pot Belly stove one for you. :)
