Survivor .308...
« on: May 22, 2010, 01:07:28 PM »
Is it the stocks that make a Survivor a Survivor, or are the barrels configured differently. I have a chance to buy one for $199. Looks like the barrel is a fairly heavy profile. Do these generally shoot better than the "standard" taper barreled models? I know it is hit or miss, but what is the general concensus?

Don't know why the 'Survivor's' are made with heavy barrels in .223 and .308, and not standard taper barrels.

But the funky stock and "stor-arm"  are largely what sets the "Survivor" apart from even the Tamer NEF's.  With the stock compartment and the hollow space in a stor-arm, one could stash a couple really important "survival items."

And except bought as an accessory, that heavy .308 barrel is only found in the "Survivor.  :)

It's the stock like Couger said

General concensus is a bull barrel shoot's better, less whip and twist = less harmonic variation,
Pro's;
 temp control,,they change less with heat
 also weight,,human wiggle is decreased, it takes more energy to move the larger mass.
Con's;
 heavy to carry
 some think it slows swing time

Also no recoil pad but the 308 ain't that hard of a kicker. Not a well thought out design for its name

I love mine. Do your self a favor and pick up a large LimbSaver slip on pad. 308 normally isn't bad recoil wise but the but on the survivor stock will make long stings of fire unpleasant. The heavy barrel does swing slower but it makes for a very accurate off hand shooter.

I'll probably put my laminated thumbhole stock on it and use the Survivor stock set on the 223 I'll eventually have, If I ever find a barrel. Or trade the Survivor set off. I'm not sure they do alot for me.

that is a good price, I have a 308 and love it, though the stocks got swithced out. Mine is pretty accurate, or as accurate as I need it to be, my standards may not be the same as others LOL  ;D

Good luck, I think you will really like it.
