M&P and don't Look back !!
1.)  The M&P is Made In the U.S.A. By U.S. workers!
2.)  The M&P Seems to Handle Better For me.
3.) The M&P's  Are More egronomical and have a slimmer feel.
4.)  They shoot Much better for me.
I have a Full size 45 and 9 M&P  I have Over 2900 rd's through the 45 With only one ftf. wich was a Round I seated the bullet to long on. The 9mm Is new to me I have about 600rds through it with No problems.  The Point of Impact on the 9mm was Low For the sight Picture and rounds I use. So I changed the front sight out for a .170" Novak Green Fiber Optic. I love Novak Sights Made in the US also.

The XD's are ok Pistols.  I personally don't Like the feel Of them.  The slide is (How do I want to say) to High or thick for my  liking. As Lloyd said they don't seem to Like lead as well. Have a Buddy that has had problems with his 40 XD in IDPA shoots using lead bullets. Plus the XD's are Made in  Croatia !    Whats Up with that Springfield ????

I had two Glocks and one S&W MP9. I no longer have any of these as I now have two XDM 9's. However, handguns are very personal firearms and what may work for one will not feel good for someone else. They are all good guns. My personal preference is for the XDM's. I like the trigger better than the Glock or S&W MP. I like the loaded chamber indicator and the cocking indicator. Also the trigger is steel - not plastic. The XDM also has a grip safety.

If you can, you need to test fire them all. I have run a lot of rounds through all of them and never had a reliability problem with any of the above. We all have our personal preferences. By the way, I like revolvers better than any of the above.

Plus the XD's are Made in  Croacia !    Whats Up with that Springfield ???

The XD was designed in Croatia in 1999. In 2002 Springfield bought the licensing rights from the manufacturers(HS Produkt) and changed the name from HS 2000 to XD.

My two cents is this since I went through this not to long ago. I wanted a hand gun that I could use for home defense and competition use. I ended up with the M&P I have a M&P40 and I ended up liking it so much that I bought a M&P40C as my carry gun and I'll tell you my reasoning. I have had glocks and the ergo's of the M&P are way better for me and the bore to hand line of the M&P is lower then the glock aka faster follow ups this is even more so when you compare the M&P to the xd's they have a even higher bore line. I had a XD 9mm and the only thing I didn't like  about it other then the high bore line was that it was .500 of travel to bring the trigger back into battery where as the glock and the new XDM are only .300 hence alot faster follow ups with a shorter trigger return.  The reason why I didn't go with the XDM was out of the three I have shot two of which had quite a few failers to fire due to not hitting the primers hard enough. I know one of the guns (all were in 40) had been sent back twice and still didn't get fixed so the gun got sent down the road. Another thing I do really like about the M&P over the others is the ambidexterous slide release. The one thing I don't like about the M&P that the xd does have right is the loaded chamber indicator which the M&P is a vissual and can't be seen in the dark where as the XD can be felt.  As far as accuracy goes all shot about the same with no real differences all were easily kept under 2 inches at 25 yards (15rd groups or whole clip). AS far as the xd's being made in Croatia after seeing the quality of the M1A I had and numorous srpingfeild 1911's I have taken apart the xd's would be the only thing I'd ever buy from springfield, I'm a machinist by trade and the machining you get from a $1200 1911 is alot like everything I've seen from taurus just horrid.  All the guns you have listed are good ones and LIke said before these are all preferences of every one and that was my two cents what ever you pick it'll work.

My two cents worth.....all the listed guns are great weapons.  Different strokes for different folks.  When I was shopping for a HDG and general " semi to shoot", I tried a GI 1911 from Springfield , had a Taurus 911 in 9mm , tried a Walther .380..seems like I'm forgetting one somewhere....Can't offer anything about Glocks, never owned nor shot one...The last one , a Ruger P-395 in 45acp.  It by far has been the best semi I've owned.  It burped (stovepiped) once half-way through the first mag....hasn't missed a beat since.  I've played with load developement...from 186 to 240 grain lead, Hps ,semi-jackets, SWC all with a variety of powders and charges....you'd think one of those loads would have produced a "no-go"...nope, it digested them all, and spit them out. Some didn't group worth a hoot,,but it at least spit them out.  I can't say enough......it will cut the perverbal "one ragged hole" at 10 -15 yards, generally opens to a couple inches at 25 yards.  All for $420. Personally , I think its the best sleeper in value going.    AND its made in USA !   As with sk330lc , that means a lot to me.

Glock is made where? Austria?
I have the XDM 40 and love it! just ordered another mag for it.
I looked at at the M&P and even the Sig's line of there 40 cal.
and several others before deciding on the XDM.

like the glock, the xd is ok, BUY THE M&P   the glock has been around for some time and has proven it's self again and again.  the xd is like i said ok, good handgun but nothing special.  have been using the m&p 40 on duty for about 2 yrs now and as impressed now as i was before.  all the mags rattles a bit but work just fine.  easy to take down and clean, most accurate semi ive ever used.

What's the deal here, S&W was boycotted years ago by shooters due to their Clinton helping gun control agenda. They come out with a few "tactical" models and all is forgiven? The Made in America company tried to infringe on your second amendment rights. http://actionamerica.org/guns/swbetray.html
Personally I had rather give my money to an American company making money off a better designed Croatian made pistol. Than one that tried to put local gun shops out of business. They wanted to be current with the times and enact policies that they thought every manufacturer would have to bow down to since they were the largest manufacturer of handguns. Instead they suffered a major backlash from potential customers and every other gun manufacturer in America. If not for the M&P line they would have most likely went through bankruptcy. Funny thing, they now make the rifles they would not allow their pistols to be sold in the same store with.

I was wondering the same thing...

Bluecow, you should try the XDm. It is a big improvement over the standard XD, and the mags don't rattle!

I don't see any of the newer polymer pistols to be an improvement over the Glocks. These are service pistols, made to function in less than ideal conditions with a minimum of service and very little training for the operators. The Glocks are easily owner maintained, and tons of parts are available in the unlikely event anything breaks. Loaded chamber indicators, cocked striker indicators, and grip safeties are not an improvement. They're selling points for those who like buttons and levers. A simple press check tells me if the chamber is loaded, (It always is). A reset trigger clues me to striker position, and trigger/muzzle discipline eliminates the need for additional safeties.
I'm not fond of polymer service pistols, but if I have to carry one, nothing I have seen is better than the Glock.

Sorry my friend, can't do that. Guns are a touchy subject for me. But I do as I will and you as you will. No hard feelings. Thankfully we have the choice to buy what we want, that the government allows us to buy.

When you talk about S&W's support of Clinton era gun prohibition you have to realize that that was years ago and different owners.  Kind of like saying you would not buy a new Ford automobile today because of the Pinto.

Not a very good assimilation. It was on a far greater scale than that. Would have wiped out several manufacturers. Several suppliers of aftermarket parts and several dealers. They changed owners but kept the upper level management that made the decisions. It is in fact the same company as then. They were owned by Tomkins PLC, now Safety-Hammer. It is not as if Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson sold out and now Mr. Ruger owns the name.

At the time it was controlled by a conglomerate which paid 112 million and sold for 15 million to another conglomerate. The only change in management has been the CEOs which have come and gone. The board of directors and upper level management were not terminated. So in fact it is essentially the same company in totality, only the profits are going to a different owner. Had they fired the board of directors which made the decisions I and many others would have had a change of heart. Your depiction was as if I disliked the model 29 so I will never buy another product from them again. When in fact I will not buy again because they would have put every semi auto rifle company out of business and many of the support companies, had they been successful. Not to mention the infringement upon the Second amendment on multiple levels for every legal gun owner in America.

I think Croacia is over by Croatia ;D ;D ;D

Anybody ever shot a CZ75?  In my opinion, it might be the best 9 on the planet, and it is made in (gasp!!!!!) the Check Republik (which is right next to the Czech Republic ;D :D ;D ::))

I don't worry so much where things are made regarding quality of manufacture.  Excellent fit, finish, and function of tools, machinery, and yes, guns, can be found all over the world.

I do try to buy US, but only because I want to keep an American employed, not because we necessarily make better stuff anymore.
