700 VLS gets a new look & feel.
« on: May 23, 2010, 10:37:46 AM »
Im in the process of bedding my new Boyds thumbhole stock for my rem 700 VLS 308. I used an Acraglass kit from brownells. Well that went pretty good. Made for a long night, wondering if I glued my stock to my action. The next morning it came apart fine, But the epoxy in that kit was so thin I leaked right under my putty dam under the barrel. . So Today I used Devcon steel epoxy to bed from the lug to about 2 inches down the barrel. Now the long wait again. Tomarrow or the next day Got to stain the stock . Its a laminate, Im thinking green ,for a camo look. then Put it all back together. & get to shooting. I ve got a descent start with 155 grai Amaxes over 44 grains Varget. I was getting groups  at .75 ctc to .85 with the SPS stock .& it was kinda flimsey. Hoping the New stock & Bedding job tightens that up a bit.

I went with a thumbhole cause The normal stock was uncomfortable to shoot off a bipod.

Good news is the Devcon epoxy only takes 6 hours to dry. So I ll know tonight how it turns out. Wish me luck. ;D
I dont care what gun Im using as long as Im hunting

Personally I always wait at least a good 24 hrs to let bedding dry...not saying that it takes that long, just would rather have to do it only once.

Good Luck!
