« on: May 23, 2010, 10:44:24 AM »
well I finally went and did it, bought myself a sportster 1200c.

have wanted a sporty since I was a kid, just something about em that I really like, and found a deal I couldnt pass up.

get it tomarrow, and cant wait to start the makeover, I have an idea of what I want to do, but the list of options (and the prices) are a bit overwhelming  :D

I have to admit, its been awhile since ive been on a bike so gonna take it slow, First trip is gonna be a little bar about 20 miles out of town that has the best steak sandwiches around  ;D

Good for you.  Lets see a pic.  I have owned several sporty's, and like em a lot.  The last was a 1991 883 that I got cheap.  Put the 1200 kit in it, and had a blast with it.  I see the new Sporty's are rubber mounted - no more numb hands and a**.

Ill get some pics posted as soon as I can, Thunderstorms here today so Im waiting on the weather to go and pick it up.

Its an 09 carry over they wanted to get rid of so I got a pretty nice deal on it.

Just taking a little extra time to decide what parts I want to build into the financing now, so I dont have to take a huge hit right away, thinking just the windsheild and pipes and a helmet.
head is still spinning on how much they want to charge for the pipes to be put on 1800 bucks! seems nuts to me.

I cant wait though.

well Luck was with me today, all the tornados went the other way  ;D

My first ride on the new sporty and man I have to tell ya, Im loving this bike!
compared to the Vstar I had, which I really liked, this thing rides like a sports car.

I was a bit nervous to ride today, weather was awful, super windy and up here in ND, that means WINDY!! but no rain for the ride home.
since I hadnt been on a bike in years I was a bit leary of ridin a new unfamiliar bike in crappy weather, but I got out of the lot and away I went like id been riding it for years.

Pretty comfy ride, im 6-1 and about 185 and felt good, didnt bottom out on anything, some tweeking has to be done, but overall I think Id be able to take the long rides without too much discomfort. Granted im still in the honeymoon phase, but so far im pleased.

Pics will have to wait as the weather is still hit and miss. but my parts will be here next week and she will have a little different look, nothing too major, pipes, sissy bar and a sheild.

Cant wait for the weather to clear, so I can get to ridin!

Kal-

Get some of the aftermarket catalogs like J&P, Dennis Kirk, or Custom Chrome.  Lots of customizing ideas without having to pay thru the teeth like you do from an HD dealer.  You can do a good exhaust for about $500.  The fuel injection system in that bike will self adjust for minor changes like exhaust and air filter.

well I already have the pipes etc ordered and gonna be installed on wed, so lesson learned, but the rest im installing myself.

I have those catalogs someplace in my office, but It just worked out better cause I could work it into my financing.

right now the only other major change for this season will possibly be the bars, going on my first real long ride (talked into it tonigth lol)
near the end of june, so Ill know then if I need to either get higher risers or go to an apehanger.  I do kinda hunch over a little bit, and can see the possibilities of my back getting tired, but we will have to see.  Possibly a new seat as well, hoping to get some miles on this weekedn and will have a better idea of the adjustments i need to make.

thanks

Dave
