Man that thing is a real trophy. I know you guys make rugs out of them, and he will be a very pretty one with that coat. But do you eat them as well? If so are they good?

Nice. Yes you eat them as well. Just like a deer nobody is shooting just for a mount. If the hunter does not want the meat someone will take it. When I shot a bear I had no problem giving most of the meat away, I kept some. I also rendered some bear grease, & gave a lot of that away too.

Yes I am having a rug made, he should make a nice one.  This is my second bear, I took a decent all black color 2 years ago. I went into the season telling myself I was only going to take a color phase bear or a BIG black.  I had this cinnamon on my trail camera several times, but he was much bigger in person.  When I saw him come waddeling into the bait site, I knew I could not pass him up.  He just looked big and his head was massive,,at least to me.  I had planned to use my bow, but I was running late so I just grabbed my 270 on the way out the door.  I am kinda glad, as I was so excited and had so much adrenaline pumping, I am not sure I could have pulled my bow back, lol.  Anyhow, I hit him behind the shoulder at about 25 yards and he ran about 20 yards and piled up.  Took out both lungs and most of his heart and he still moaned for about 10 seconds.  The taxidermist thinks he might make the Idaho record book, it will be close.

Nice Trophy!

I am guessing your rifle is a Savage.  What load did you use on the bear?
