Marlin 45-70 Question

Just picked up a Marlin 45-70 1895 SDG limited edition (Stainless).  It has the weather resistant laminant stock with night sites and a 18 1/2 in barrel.  I'm assuming that the limited refers to the number made. Can anyone tell me how many were made or give me other info on the rifle?  I think I got pretty lucky in my purchase.  The guy said he paid $750 for it new.

Don't know anything about that one, but even being synthetic, $750 sound high to me. Mine's not synthetic, and has the 22" barrel, but I only paid $495 NIB, 2 years ago.

The original owner paid $750.  I only paid $350 plus a box of ammo and bore snake.  I was just seeking info on the model.  Not too worried about what I paid.  I think that is a deal and I really like the laminate look.

By your picture you probably have a Davidson 45-70. Marlin produced 501 for them in 2008.
Look on the Gallery of Guns website,they still have them listed.

I opted between the 45-70 and the .308ME. Chose the .308 as I already have a 45-70.

378, I'm a little late with my reply, but you are going to love that .45-70. In the Marlin you can load it up to the level that is capable of taking almost any animal on the North American Contenent. You can also load it down to almost pistol level. In short it's a really versatile cartridge. It's also very accurate! I think you will enjoy that rifle. Enjoy it, & congratulations.

Amen to that.  I load mine with 300g and 350g Oregon Trail Lasercast bullets and 13.5g HS6 for .22 velocities (1167fps and 1097fps respectively).  Very low recoil, very accurate.  I also load it all the way up to shoulder-busting recoil levels with my 460g hardcast loads I call my “Rhino Blasters”.  Lots of stops in-between.

You got a steal of deal for $350. He must have been late on house note/alimony/or child support, lol.
A regular blued one in excellent conditon would sell like a hotcake for 350.
The 44 mag models do seem to sell quicker however.
I picked up a Marlin 1894 stainless 44 mag for 450 and was highly pleased with myself and a Marlin 308 MXLR stainless/laminated for the same amount.
